2008 TCS Rules - Brushless and LiPo!!!
 

Wasn't sure if anyone saw the new TCS rules for 2008. Here is a link. Of interesting note, GT-3 will get LiPo, GT-2 will get 13.5 brushless and LiPo, and GT-1 will get 10.5 brushless (but no LiPo???). It doesn't say, but I'm wondering if GT-1 will turn into a five-cell class (which would explain the absence of LiPo). Anyone know what's the deal?

It is great to see Tamiya moving things to the current technlogy. For those who have not run brushless or LiPo, your gona love it. :nod:

very cool except for the fact can't use the Core Lipo or Speed Passion motors.

Not too good news. They are limiting the use of LiPo to only one brand, Orion/Peak, and only those in the plastic cases, the 3200, 3600 and 4800.

That's a shame to require someone to spend almost as much for the battery as the kit (GT-3) cost, a TT01 runs about $80. The cheapest pack is the 3200 at around $80 which is overkill in this class.

Don't forget about A123, Trinity, Venom and all the other brands being introduced not to mention all the non-encased batteries that have been used and are safe.

I shoulda checked there first before posting this thread I guess, but I just thought it was such big news that everyone would be interested. If you look at the changes that are happening for 2008 with Novak Race going all brushless, and ROAR on the verge of creating brushless classes that will (most likely) replace stock and 19t, it seems as though this stuff is really on the move (no pun intended). ;)

Who's requiring anything? If you wanna spend the dough...you can still go the baller NiMh way. Now you have the option of going the econo route.

Don't kid yourself for one second that the top guys in the silvercan classes (all of them) don't bring out several of the very best packs that can be purchased. Now there's a cheaper alternative.

I don't think it's going to be a good alternative for spec, because the gear is fixed and you can't gear it up to make up for the lower voltage...but it's way good news in general for most of us.

Allowing LIPO and then putting in min weight of 1550 grams makes the LIPO almost non-competitive. Orion LIPO's have a slightly lower voltage than nimh. The way to level the field is to reduce the min weight so that the lower voltage LIPO's have a weight advantage.

Although allowing lipo is definately a step forward, reducing the min weight to 1400 grams would be the perfect ruling to promote LIPO, and level the playing field.

Did they cancel the RALLY class but added the 4WD off road class..? Wow...talk about perfect timing...just got myself a 501X. Now, it is a perfect excuse to paint that body...:D And I think I will do the Triple like what I did for the nitro MWS...F103GT, GT2 and Off road...dang...

No one is required to use/run LiPo:D

The tt-01 would come in last in GT3 even with a 13.5 Brushless in it:lol:

BTW TCS also Limits the use of ONLY TAMIYA CARS:p

great news, now i have an outlet/class i can do in spring. lipo TC with choice of a 13.5 or a 540. good deal. great job tamiya!!!

That is only the Tamiya series. I don't understand why they don't follow the JMRCA or EFRA rules for racing.
