Futaba 9650 and 9602 are very good servos for 1/12. Also plastic gears have not failed on me so far..

JR 3650, I'm not biased its just a good fast, solid servo that also takes some abuse.

I've posted this before, but I feel like I should repeat it anytime the discussion of 1/12 servos comes up...

The JR 3650 is a GREAT servo, but any time you try to get one it seems like it's on backorder. My buddy Jomo at Big Apple Hobbies in NY turned me on to the fact that JR sells the exact same servo under a different part number, it's the JR 3400G servo, they sell it as a micro heli tail rotor servo.

It's the same exact servo as the 3650, same case, same gears, same price, same specs, the only difference between the two is that the 3400G is almost always available when you want one. I have one in my 1/12 car and it's been great so far.

the 3400G has nylon gears where the 3650 has metal, other than that they're the same. But your right on the 3650 never being in stock

My 3400G came with metal gears, the others I've seen also had metal gears. I'd have actually preferred nylon gears to shave a few grams off the weight...

I like the Hitec HS81-MG, it's lightweight, fast, reliable and cheap. It is now replaced by the HS82-MG

The best servo is the one that your whip was designed to work with. I know that at least two new cars(BMI DB12R and the yet to be released Hyperdrive) have the servo mounts drilled for the Futaba 9650 specs. Try and find out what servo your car was designed to use, if info is not avalible you can try and use the CRC adjustable servo mounts.
