SEOUL (Reuters) - A 33-year-old South Korean quarry worker was found dead with a burning mobile phone stuck to his chest, police and the doctor who examined the man said on Thursday.

The man, who was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital, had burns on his chest, fractured ribs and internal bleeding, the doctor said.

"When he was admitted into the emergency room, the melted mobile phone was stuck to the left side of his shirt," said Kim Hoon, professor at emergency department at Chungbuk National University Hospital, who examined the victim.

"I cannot think of any other cause of his death other than his mobile phone exploding," Kim said.

Police said they are investigating that as a possible cause and whether it was triggered by a faulty battery, Yonhap news agency reported. It will take about 10 days to complete the probe into what led to the death.

"He (the victim) was found lying next to an excavator while working at a stone quarry," an official from the Cheongju Heungdeok police station, about 100 km (60 miles) southeast of Seoul, told Reuters.

Witness Kwon Young-sup told national broadcaster YTN: "He was lying on the ground and his mobile phone was still burning so I had to put the fire out."

Besides, phones use Lion, not lipo.........he more than likely got hit by a truck and the phone went boom as aftermath.........which was more than likely triggered by the short circuit in the phone itself, not just the battery.

Some phones are using LiPo. The iPhone does for sure. Granted, it's more computer than phone, but it's not unheard of to use LiPo in a mobile device.

Wasn't the phone that killed him.

Since when did we let the truth get in the way of a good story?

Well I heard from a bad source that a phone company worker who raced Rc cars had a brother who's friends sister worked for a lucrative rich SUB-C manufacturer that said he had just hung up from talking to a new solar power manufacturer that is experimenting with a new Iphone that would second as a radio Rec.
And that when he hung up he put the phone in his pocket and it just bursted into a flame, he then fell down and couldn't get up. Then a truck ran over him.

Ya cant beleive every thing you here on the news. Nope.

From the linked article in post 24:

A spokesman for the company denied that the battery could have exploded.

"Unlike lithium ion batteries, lithium polymer batteries cannot suddenly explode," the spokesman told Yonhap, adding that lithium polymer batteries are used in most mobile phones these days for safety reasons.

CNN reported that a co-worker ran over the guy, and has now admiitted to the incident.

They did mention some concerns with batteries on a side note, something about someones phone starting on fire while in the charge rack, and then went on to say more investigations are ongoing about other battery incidents, but not a major issue.

I heard that global warming was a direct result of the use of LiPo batteries.
