I'm finding my SMC Ener-Gs to be very reliable. So much so, that I wonder if they need to be left with a charge as recomended?

After our club races I equalized my packs, let them cool, and put 500 sec of 6A in to each pack while storing them for two weeks. When race day comes, I haven't bothered to check what's left in them, but everytime I have to discharge at 30A and get a decent run out of them. Then I tray them before I charge for qualifiers. Do you think I could get away with just leaving them at 5.4V over two weeks? Sure would be easier!

Another question, if they perform better after one cycle, how much time do they need cool down (assuming room temp)? Are we talking cycle in the morning to use at night or are we talking one hour in between cycles?

Thanks in advance!

In my short experience with these cells I have been impressed with the power, but have had cell failures in 2 of the 5 4 cell packs I own.

The first pack was bought with a dead cell, no voltage at all, and woud not take a charge. The second pack on its maiden run, had a cell vent within the car and in doing so, sprayed acid on the aluminum stand offs which are now pitted from acid corrosion.

I am now awaiting 2 new cells from SMC.

All packs we have shipped out since early October have been much more stable with less issues. The manufacturer of the cell has improved the reliability of the cells while keeping the same if not better performance.

I just recieved my latest batch of EnerG4600's and noticed a different size; is it true that the length of the cell had increased to 43,00 mm?

tnx,

Eric

I have tried so many setup for cells , like pulse discharge to 1v then linear to 0.9v or even linear 0.9v or pulse to 0.9 v but they only peak at 4400.

Thumbs up

I see this topic hasn't had much action this year and I do understand as our local track has been closed the last two years.

A little feedback on some Ener-G 4600 cells that I've been experimenting with for over the last year. I have also been racing on and off for over the last twenty years and have seen many a battery come and go. I still have a pack of Sanyo SCR-1200's just for memory sake.

I don't want to start another battery "treatment" forum and this is just " my" findings on the Ener-G 4600 cells.

I've had a 4 cell pack dead-shorted for over a year and when I do cycle it , maybe once a month or sometimes after 2-3 months of sitting dead-shorted,
the pack is as good if not slightly better every time.

I'm just playing but I'll leave it that way untill it starts to drop off or just dies but as of right now it's as great a pack as it was after a few initial break in cycles.

This isn't true for all 4600 packs but this cell really loves it.

I love these cells. I kinda wish everyone hadn't gone lipo these things are so good. I also see promatch got a new batch in with even better numbers. Too bad I can't use them anymore.
