i had li-po battery(4800ma, 20C).

and i used 3.5 or 4.5 Brushless motor in 1/10 TC car.

and i feel li-po batter had less torque and high-speed than Ni-MH (4500ma, 6 cells).

is it normal state? or my li-po battery had problem?

I think it was your pack... But one of the keys is the C rating... the higher the number the more the batteries will give up and feed the motor... The new Orion 3600 is 25C which is better then 20C and also the better the cells, the better performance you will get from the pack...

From my understanding, I don't run lipo, the lipo pack just stays consistant the whole way through a run. Where as you noticed the Nimh has more punch but tends to go flatter toward the end of the run or just drops off. I have heard of some who did Lipo for awhile but went back to Nimh just for that reason. If you are about the low maintenance then Lipo is for you but you do sacrafice a little on the performance end.

With a 3.5 motor the lipo should have been faster. If it had been a 13.5 the nimh should be faster

Yeah, for some reason people think "Lipo = more voltage". A good NiMh pack has more voltage.

Just gear it up. The "20C" is what it CAN flow, not what it does flow. Gear it up and use more of the 20C.

LiPo should have more voltage under load, though. You'd think with the loads of a mod motor, LiPo would be the clear winner. Something might be wrong.

Really? I've run Lipo and 4200 one after the other and Nimh are noticeably faster to start with. As the voltage drops off the difference isn't as pronounced. I use lipo for the convenience, not for the power.

If you really think about it, the conditions where the Lipo would really have a sizeable advantage in voltage are going to be fairly fleeting. Most of the time, even a mod motor won't be flowing a very large number of amps. Once you round a corner and the motor starts gaining speed, the load will fall pretty quickly.

Like I said...just gear it up.

I have noticed that my lipos have lots more punch then nimh, but not the same speed....

But like said, I use lipo for convenience, not for power....

i run compared ni-mh(4500) with lipo(4800) as same gear ratio.

lipo had more 170g lightweight than ni-mh.

But ni-mh had more punch and more top-speed.


when i use li-po.. must gear up?

Yeah, there is a huge mis-conception that Lipo is faster than NiMH. I ran a Lipo in my T4 this season in offroad. People were complaining that I had an unfair horsepower advantage. I put in an IB4200 and walked away from everyone even more.

in terms of torque and top speed, 1.25v+ nimh will walk all over lipo's

For sure...gear up. Just like they do for 5-cells. Not as much, because the difference isn't as large, but for sure at least a tooth or two.
