Tire Lathe Blades...

I got an Eagle manual tire truer.. (Same thing as the Integy one) and it has the hacksaw look blade, what is the best blade to get for these? what about going to the hardware store and buying an actual hacksaw blade and cutting it the required size chunks? Any type of certain blade?

Thats what i did just make sure you get the same Tooth Per Inch.

BSchorr,
The best blade to buy is a panel cutting blade. It has an aluminium oxide coating on the edge. They are tougher to cut into peices but will cut your tires smoother and last longer.

Go to Home_depot or lowes and buy a hacksaw blade... They come in 18-24-32 teeth, I think 32 teeth would be a smooth cut and finish... I matched up the blade that came with my Integy Tire truer then cut it to the same size... I got 10 blades from 1 hacksaw blade.. It cost me $2.99 ( Integy charges 2.99 for 1 replacment blade which has 9 teeth....) save big $$$$

You can also get the Hudy carbide bit. With a little mod to the truer, you will get the best cut and never have to replace the blade.

I have the integy one and I bought a Windtunnel (Murdock) Fine grit carbide cutter***same deal as HUDY but you dont have to modify the machine to get it to fit... It cuts waaayyyyyyyyy smoother than the saw blades ever did..and Ive had it for 2 years...

hey where can i get one of these wind tunnel thingys? what is it's original purpose?

Sean Maxwell 11-16-2007 07:49 AM

1 more fun fact... As far as doing the radius on the edges...He sells the radius sticks...However if you go to a Lowes or home depot and ask for a Carbide TILE SHAPING FILE you can get a nice tire radius file for about 6-7 bucks..

And FWIW when I true a tire its difficult/impossible to tell its been trued...versus one that has been run.. When you use the sawblades the tire looks all gatored up untill you run it.. with the carbide cutters the tire looks like its straight out of the package..
