From reading this post, I will immediately increase my Orion 3200 inventory from 1 to 2!

Now, where is the T2 008?

Lipos are pretty safe. The only guys that blow them up are for making videos so you buy those safe charging bags and boxes. Really; how many volts and amps do you think they connected to the battery to make them light up and explode? I fly airplanes too and been using lipos for several years. I always tell people I've dived nose first into the ground and bent a lipo into a banana shape and it didn't explode.

I've got both the orion 3200 and 4800's. Bang for the buck nothing beats the 3200's. For the avg racer for fun, they are GREAT but for serious racing, they won't touch an IB for power. Last weekend I tested the orion lipo 3200's vs IB4200's in 19T rubber touring on carpet; the IB's were about 0.3 seconds faster per lap (laps in the low to mid 13 second range). Thats just my results; by no means to pick a fight with anyone. Does anyone else have punch issues with the lipos?

Explode = Nimh

Burn = Lipo

A lipo can not and will not explode.

It's a shame roar has draged their feet on not approving lipo packs. Yes I know you can run them if the club or track approves of it but roar should allow them to be the official battery. I have seen them used in rc cars along with airplanes and they are truly awsome. They are as safe as any nicad/nimh pack ever was. Step up to the plate and open the door for better competition for everyone not just the few that can get their hands on the "good" packs. I am off my soap box now!!

.........makes you wonder if importers of Nimh batteries have ROAR in their pocket.........or get kickbacks......as soon as ROAR opens up the battery usage i will get back into carpet racing..........until then nitro.......

I've pushed Lipo's at our club and we spec'ed Orion's and Peak's (3200 and 4800). I've run Stock Rubber with the Lipos and I've gotten T-Boned on the batt side - I mean TTTTTT boned...no problems. We strickly enforce the minimum weight limit (need about 3 strips of lead).

Some less skilled people not knowing how to file a chassis properly have had the Lipo's ejected and they have been hit by other cars going through the turn...no fire.

I do not regret pushing this on our club. Performance wise, the edge is still on the NiMh for stock - but ya can't beat the charge routine of Lipos.

Lipo at our track is gaining momentum. I would say at least 1/3 of us use them. The same ratio for brushless.

We did have someone take a brand new Orion 4800 and charge it with a NIMH profile. All it did was swell up, no fire.

We had a bj4 with a saddle lipo burn as well. The rear cva pin popped out and shorted out the balance wires. No big flames and the car was not damaged as they removed it quickly.

I've had a 3200 Orion pack for 3 months. Charging with an Ice at 3.2 amps and on club nights, sometimes at 5 amps. Prolly done at least a 100 cycles, no balancing as I haven't bought a system yet (suggestions please).

Last w/end at the NWIC race at Time Zone 2 (fantastic new facility in Washington State) I must have done at least 20 cycles with a 10.5 against some heavy weight competition and this system holds its own with NiMH. Having the gearing spot in is key to the rocket launch.

I love this set up........................
