Default The Gate-New Track system Used!!!

Hey guys,

This is for all the guys who love racing on Carpet!!! Aaron Buran, myself and Jim Herrmann decided after the last club race that we wanted to do something amazing with our facility and track. We tore the whole track down, bought more than 1760' of new 2x4's and relaid 50% of the carpet and added a MORE carpet. We now have a 88' x 52' stretch of billiard table flat carpet and 40' of driver's stand. And gave everything a fresh coat of paint.

Why I am posting this is so other track owners or clubs can see how we (Copying the gas club, MORR club in Mentor , OH) attached the boards and made for smooth rounded corners.

We made lengths of 1', 2', 3', 5' 10' and 12'.

They interlock via a bolt that goes through both sets of boards and catches a blind nut pressed into the bottom board!!!! Very easy to build, secure and very clean looking.

Pictures are worth a thousand words-so here ya go!!!

Heres an overall pic. Notice how many short boards it took to make a corner. But they are bolted together with a flapper screwed into the face. Makes for a smooth corner to hit-not a 90* bend that ripps your A-arm off.

This is the track that almost all the Pro-teams used to warm-up at for the 2002 US Indoor Champs!!! Its even better now-so just wait till they come in 2003!!!!!
We are also hoping to have at least two BIG two-day races in 2003/2004!!!

Good old fashioned ingenoooooity!

Do you anchor it to the floor in any way? weights? concrete anchors? Bueller? Bueller?

If not, is it heavy enough to keep cars from moving things around when they hit?

I've seen a few systems like that, but none that used the variety and creativity in board lengths like you did. Kudos!

Holy moly! I can only imagine the time you spent cutting, rounding off the ends, drilling and painting all of the parts. It looks very very good. You're hard work really gave fantastic results. Great job. We may have found a permanent location for our club, presently we use 3'' white ABS sewer pipes for our track. Your system makes for nice rounded curves. It must be easier on the cars.

Boomer-where we could we anchored the perimeter boards into the floor. The interior boards will get a sandbag where needed, but are not anchored per se. YOu can tighten them together very well with the large bolts that are used and when you have hundreds all tied together-its pretty rigid.

mistercrash-We are hoping this tack will keep cars in one piece more and also that you will be able to glance off a corner if you miss it and keep going. Not get marshalled!!!

Thanks guys, it was a lot of work-but its a one-time deal!!!

Thumbs up The Gate

wow ray,

i can remember your posts a year ago asking for input on owning your own track. insurance, lease, and materials etc. now you've got one of the best indoor tracks in the country. the best part about it is that it's in cleveland, ohio.

i guess cleveland does rock. well, the gate does anyway. word.

Honestly, I wish someone could come out to San Diego and build a track like that. We had a carpet track out here for a few months, but the owner decided to pack it up and get on with life (he wasn't an rc enthusiast anyway) You need to move out here and open one up for those of us who are deprived and have to make a weekly 2 hour drive to get to a descent racetrack. San Diego is a huge city, wouldn't you think we could at least have a dang RC track?
