Default Lipo

I left the Lipo hooked to the charger without a power supply attached...oooops!...It discharged the battery down to zero and now I have a very expensive paperweight. Learn from my mistake...disconnect the battery from the charger when not charging.

I killed a 3200 by hooking it up backwards to the speedo. Snap, Crackle, sizzled......

Luckily the speedo and motor were ok, but the battery was burned toast. I have to give credit to Novak for designing the GTB Speed Control and BL Motor so well.

After that happened, I pulled the Orion 3200 apart to see what had happened. I found that the flat-wire leads that go inside each of the two lipo cells were burned in half.

That day I learned a very quick $90.00 lesson on how NOT to hook up a LiPo battery. Next, I marked my battery and car clearly with a Silver marker so I will always remember which side is positive + and which side is negative -- .

Default hooking up lipo backwards

kn7671: That is a safety feature in the orion packs. The terminal acts as a fuse. If the lipo fuse didn't blow, the gtb would of burned up, and the pack could have very likely caught fire for a few seconds (after thermal runaway.) This is why the kokam cells are so well regarded, they have SAFETY built in.

no puncture only a long hard scrap on the edge of the lipo taking off some of what seems to be plastic case!!! =[ it was pretty much at top speed when it went onto the sides and flipped countless times then crashing down...god that hurts my wallet hahah

owells...time to move on to another pack...gonna try team orion, n see how tough it really is hehehe =]

I've broken an Orion 4800 through repeated crashing. The tube for the banana plug broke apart at the solder joint inside the battery, but it was easy to remedy once the case was pulled apart.

The case is just stuck on the packs with servo tape... Constant pressure prying the top and bottom halves will open up the pack so you can check out the internals.

bad luck guys.

i'm sure my new idea will work for keeping my lipo's safe:

also there is foam tape/stuff on the inside side of the metal to hold the lipo in place.

this stuff is only half mm metal so i may need to upgrade to 1mm like i planned. but still its pretty tough and it'd take ALOT to scrape away all the metal exposing the pack or a fair bit of brute force to puncture the metal with a object.

what ya think? not bad for a 2min job

I've left a Li-Po pack hooked up on the ESC for the fan to cool off the ESC and forgot it. $80 went goodbye. 2nd time the flat metal broke inside the packupon a scrape and adios to that pack. Both times were Orion 3200s.
