Default Old Batteries: recycle or trash?

I was ponding this question for awhile since my old dead cells have been piling up. What to do with the old and tired batteries that don't hold a charge anymore? What do you all do with your batteries. I hate to throw them in the trash and harm the land, but I don't know if their is a recycle center to take them to or ship to. Anybody have an answer to this question?

This Web site provides a look up service for locations near you where you can turn in batteries. See the 'Battery Recycle Locations' section.

All Staples locations have tubes for old electronic devices that all get recycled, and it's free. Completely discharge them, bag them and dump them in the tube. I'd hate to cause a fire with any charge left...

You may want to check with your LHS as well. My local shop collects junk cells and ensures they are recycled properly.

I would but they do not do anything like that. They hardly change the layout of the track, like once a year.

if you local council has a municipal waste site for dumping rubbish, they would/should have a battery disposal area there.

dumping cells in landfill is just daft these days, chucking them in the fire... good luck, read about your injury in the papers, or best still, video it and get it on youtube.
