Default WHATS NEXT????

Schumacher Mi3 and Team Magic E4, two of the most creative cars to date.....but where does the hobby go next? Lipo is starting to catch on, but is longer the latest "craze". BL is gaining in "standardized" popularity, so thats a no brainer. Whats next in this hobby of ours? Cars are already flat as pancakes, drivetrains are as smooth as baby bottoms, so WHATS NEXT?????

Default what's next

First -> More of the same packaged as new technology for the r/c manufacturers to sell.

Later on:
I see r/c touring going to center positioned batteries in the next 1 or 2 generations (like the Losi and Team Magic, but different variations.)

I see electronic driving aids in the speed controllers and receivers (stability, throttle to steering links, etc.)

I see LIPO and brushless taking over brushed and nimh completely.

But in the end, I see ever more expensive touring cars and a further decline in the electronic on-road segment.

We have to drive from inside the car and backwards. From a monitor.

I'd gladly trade my ex wife for some sort of collision avoidance system that's a bit more functional than my trigger finger.

Here's a few to chew on:

Traction Control

Computer assisted differentials

Computer Aided Driving

Hybrid drivetrain (regeneration = voltage bump)

Telemetry (already available - but smaller better systems coming)

Yup. She was indeed defective... Hated RC and couldn't understand why I liked it.

And I've got twice as many cars now!

I would envision improved telemetry requiring some sort of assistance from the shop/track to make it really beneficial. Consider a 4-5 (4 for X/Y and 1 for Z positioning) antenna spread working like GPS satellites and a small data logger recording inputs from the radio and an on board gyro.

Add a small transmitter/receiver system, and you'd have positioning at .5 second or better intervals. In theory, you would be able to record and play back an entire race based on recorded data and see what parts of the track you could be running faster on.

Without the antenna spread but including the on board telemetry and gyro data, you would be able to produce a log of the inputs, but without some sort of track position it would be a bit of guesswork to determine where you really were.

But man, it would be cool!

Perhaps the next great improvement will be in dampers. Fluid filled with big bore shafts and a needle valve body/pressurized reservoir to adjust the damper rate rather than dumping out globs of silicone oil on the coffee table. Adjustability from 20w to 70w oil in 5w increments along with 10 or more 'piston' adjustments please.

Didnt they outlaw that already?

Its like what the next BIG thing? I'm sure the creative minds are thinking this over to prevent stagnation....but with BL/Li-po and several key advents in electric, its like, where do they go next to keep it interesting????
