A motor with a higher amount of turns makes it have less rpm, but more punch, the lower the amount of turns with have better rpm, but not as much torque. The difference between a 10x1, 10x2, 10x3, 10x4, and so on, is a 10x1 will have really good punch out of the corner with a slight drop in rpm, while a 10x4 is very smooth and tons of top end power and better runtime as well . Hope this helps clear up a few things.

4 strands of wire wrapped around each pole of the armature ten times.

yes. The term 10 turn is just how many tiem a wire is wrapped around the armature. The number after it just means how many wires were used. What kinda of track are you gonna be running on. I can't really give a motor reconmadation if I dont know what the track is like. If it's for oval a 9x2 would probably work really well. Very fast. The orion motors dont seem to be as fast as a Trinity D5 or a Reedy Kr, or Ti. I run a Fantom 10x2 which has a reedy Ti can in my xxx-s. Very fast....
