Default Batteries burning up

I was wondering what could be going on with my setup. I am using a speedworks retro series 11t with an Mtronics rv11 and it melted the end cells on two of my packs. Im guessing it is due to gearing on my tc4. If it is gearing, what do you recommend I gear the car at?

What was the temperature of the pack?
Do the plastic that protects the cells are damaged and the cell makes short circuit with the chassi?
