I raced my TRF416X last night (or tried!)
I did about 4 turns and melted one of the front outdrives!

Then a friend lent me his complete spool set-up, and within 5 turns I melted BOTH outdrives!!!!!!!

What did I do wrong??????

I ran that car before without any problems, the only thing I did was adjust the front belt (to loosen it up).

Thanks for your help.

Sounds like you have your bearing holders in upside down. Is the dot on the holder at the top or bottom. Is the alum coupler damaged aswell???

Default handling

Hey guys

I have just bought a 416we and i was hoping someone could help me understand what changes affect different aspects of the cars handling

For example, i sort of understand that shocks affect weight transfer front to rear (or not?)spring rates, oil, piston number?, what does a sway bar do? how does it affect the cars handling? what about inboard toe in as opposed to outboard toe in? and the big one that i cant get my head around is roll centre - how changing the inner camber link changes the roll centre and how it affects handling? what about the outer camber link? i also read back a few pages about guys shimming the bulkheads? please help me, i really want to get this car on rails but my limited knowledge is stopping me from competing outside club level

We dont have a fulltime track, its setup every raceday on a carpark

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

if u have an iphone/ipad/itouch you can pick up the app "Setup Workbench" written by Martin Crisp. if you don't then i recommend that you pick up his book from xxxmain Touring Car Chassis Setup Guide. it'll have all the info you need.

Default gear diff V2 stupid tip

this will be a stupid tip just in case any of you guys are curious whether the gear diff can withstand your torture tests.

anybody has experienced melting a gear diff? i was trying the plastic cross axle in my gear diff v2 (breaking it in) it melted part of the casing and fused the small gears and axle. replaced it now and using the metal axles. i guess these parts are not meant to be spun for 30 seconds while holding the other wheel axle for diff action. now i cant get the o-rings out. but the diff still works though (in bench testing - hopefully in a race too)

Steve: Welcome! You got yourself a mighty nice car. Mine is a 416WE that I run in the GT10 class. I wont chime on on set up because Im not that good at it.

One thing you should pick up the Spec R gear diff, or Tamiya's own gear diff. It will help out a lot for Charlies races.

Exactly. You'll need the following gearing: either 82/48, 86/50, for 3.5 fdr.

Start with the stock diff and belt pulleys and a stock steering system(if it is changed).
That will do the trick.

regards Roy
