Chris, I doubt we will get any reply from Tamiya, I mean we have a TRF Team driver on here telling us to find this part in Japan....

I have had people drive my car, and want a 416 immediately, but I am warning them, you cannot get the most basic of parts.. been there done that, and I am not suggesting any car to anyone that you cannot get parts for.

This car is awesome, but if you cannot get spool cups, it is a $450 + paper weight.... And in this economy, if your not getting TARP money, then thats a way too expensive paperweight.

I have called Tamiya and get the same answer... We have no idea when this part is coming in, but how difficult is it to pick up the phone, and call their business partner in Japan and ASK... The only reason I see why they have no date, is because there are no plans to support the racer with the most basic and necessary parts they need.

Just sooooo frustrated with manufacturers no being able to support racers when they BUY thier cars...

How quickly we forget the 6+ months it took for the spool to even be released. :-(

My guess is the spool cups sold out everywhere quickly once people realized how easily they break. They're pretty cheap, so you could pick up 10 packages of them for like $60 at the right place. That's probably faster than anybody expected to sell them.

It's a real shame that arguably the best car made is such a pain for American drivers.

If only things were that easy for us. You have to think of Tamiya America like a Horizon Hobbies or Great Planes. We are a distributor for Tamiya products, and while we have the Tamiya in our name, more or less we are our own entity. We do email them, call them, etc. to get parts and product support, but it is then up to them to chose to meet our requests.

If you have a part number handy for the cups, let me know and i will look them up to see what I can find.

Maybe they're trying a new composite to make them more durable, and that's why there's a lag in availability? We can hope...

Well, a third company has an opportunity to make money since Tamiya doesn't seem to care about supply/demand.

Going to hold off on getting this until this problem is resolved. Don't want to end up with a paper weight

Haha, it's just the kindler, gentler syndr0me. I kinda hate it!

I don't use a spool that much on carpet, though I have experimented with it in 13.5, and can definitely see where it could be quick. It's just a monumental pain in the ass with the spool cups exploding on simple impacts. I don't know if that's specific to this spool or what, but it takes some of the fun out of it. The one-way is hassle free.

My 416 has been sitting in the box, too, but only because I'm having a great time with my hopped up TA05! :-)

shucks, maybe a tc-3 diff will work??
ROFLMAO!!
seriously, I have complained about similar situations with other importers, since the USA lost ALL the manufactoring jobs overseas we have to wait till they are good & ready to let us have a dribble of much needed parts
This does NOT mean Tamiya US is at fault, they of course try the best they can.
Please don't shoot the messanger
Speedy

ps tc-3's don't sound that bad now do they??
