Tired of wearing out your plastic TRF416 spool outdrives? Speedtech RC now offers a spring steel alternative. Our design incorporates the use of Tamiya blades for long lasting outdrives.
The outdrives fit both the TRF416 series and TA05 spool drives. There's 2 sets of pin holes. Simply rotate the cup one direction for the 416 and the other direction for the TA05.

I tried alloy spool cups when I ran the photon but the driveshaft blades didn't last very long, and when they failed the driveshafts damaged the cups pretty badly. I think if you run 17.5 you'll be sweet, with the faster classes you'll need to replace the blades every meet at least

Are those spool cup aluminum or steel?
I had the same problem when I had the TC5. The blade in the front would break when I hit something hard. When the blade breaks, the aluminum spool get chew up. It gets old after a while. The plastic spool cups hold up better when I grease them.

Hallo,
some time ago I also have tried steel ones. There were 2 problems:
1. The blades were worn out within 2 batteries
2. The steel cups were so rigid, that all the vibrations from the front drive shafts were transfered to the drivetrain and worn out my belts faster
So the 9804388 Tamiya resin cups are the best solution for me.

I tried the steel out drives today with good results. However my blades were sticking in the slots so I had to sand them a bit to make sure they didn't bind. I tapped many boards today and didn't break a blade. Obviously they will have less give and may be harsher on the drive train. All in all I'm happy with my purchase so far...

When I built the diff, I used 2 of the shims on each side to prevent the shims collapsing into the orings. Even though they are only 0.1mm it meant I needed to use 2 gaskets to get a nice mesh. After one meet it feels even better now, but I might give it a go with a single gasket now that the teeth are bedded in just in case the mesh is a little too loose now
Really happy though, I didn't expect it to be that good in lower grip, cant wait to try it on a dry track and check the lap times!
