I have not had an issue with durability of the cups, but the short of it... The way things are, if you have one big collision, the drivers fault or not.. the car is a paperweight...
I ran mod at our last state race.. ( Kraceway..big gas track) And drilled some guy running 17.5 in practice... had to be a 30MPH difference in speed... didn't see him... , tore the front right corner of my car off, including the cup...

How big is youe track.. how much traction do you have ? I ran a 5.83 final on a 70x36 track and it was ballistic! and 10 turn brushless,,, umm that doesnt make any sence . Is it a 10.5 or not?

So, I wonder if TRYHARD is listening if he would know if the 415 delrin cups will fit the 416, maybe with a little modification? If so, I know there are aftermarket companies making them other than Tamiya. I had the same problem with the 415, they didn't sell the delrin cups seperately at first and you had to buy another spool just to replace the cups. That's when I found out about the aftermarket option. Once again Tamiya has issues keeping racers happy with the proper parts in stock, so if that's the case go to another source!


The 415 cups are different to the 416 ones, as I beleive they are a little wider between the bearings... however a little mod to the bearing holder, I'm pretty sure you can run them. Only issue I can see (and as I no longer have a 415, I can't check), is the fitment of the alloy sleeves. I have a feeling the 416's might be too short, and the 415's too fat at the bearing end...
Another option is using steel cups... I've run the ones from the TA05 spool (they fit, apart from needing to mod the bearing holder as above), and certainly won't break, and I've also run ones from Xceed. however, being a little heavier, they do take away a bit of steering. Still, as a stop gap until the plastic ones come in, the option is there.
All you need to get it to fit (and I'm sure I've mentioned this before), is take the bearing holder, and remove some material from the inner face, facing the bearing. It needs less than a mm to do, and a dremel cutting bit placed flat agains the face (i.e. sanding, not cutting) does the job in seconds.
I have to admit, I'm with Randy on the breaking cups issue though... I think I've only broken one in over a years racing. More often than not I have to replace them beacuse they're worn out!

Just because it hasn't happened to you yet doesn't mean it's not a problem. This sounds just like the problem with the hot bodies front knuckles. There are many that say we were doing something wrong because it's never happened to them. There's only one guy still diving a hotbodies at the carpet track now because of that. The gerneral public make better R&D guys than the factory guys when it comes to durability testing. You rarely make mistakes and because of that I now have a homie in the invite class this year
You guys help figure out the best starting set up for the kits and camber link testing and shock location.....etc The public let's a company know where the weak links are. I just hope the problem is solved in a timely matter and the racers can go on running a great car

I am the same way. i am in no way a great driver, and I have hit my 416 hard, once sheering the swing shaft right off at the axle and the spool was fine.

geez..what kind of barriers are you guys using? solid concrete?

thats what im saying. im not a great driver...and ive had my own share of spectacular crashes.. sometimes full throttle...and nothing breaks. so you guys must be doing something really bad to break a spool cup. ive broken more rear arms (2) in the last 3 years than i have spool cups.
good thing i have spare cups because now that i've posted that... im gonna break one this weekend, watch.
