Hrm, my 78t is fine. If 80 hits then you won't be able to gear it that tall because you'll need a pinion around 14t and wont be able to get the motor close enough to mesh properly - with 17/78 my motor screws are all the way up against the end of the slots. You could try switch to 64 pitch, Ed has the gearing chart on his site though I'm not sure if it goes to 11.3

I have a 82T 48pitch spur on my car and it sits just above the bottom of the chassis. I think you should almost be able to get a 83 tooth spur gear in there.
Although i did put a slight bevel on the chassis where the spur goes to allow it top fit properly.
Hope this helps

hi just want to ask what will be the effect you put shims or wheel spacers? let's say front wheels are wider than the rear? what will be the effect of that? and in vice versa (rear wider than front). thanks

Why are guys choosing to use 48pitch?

For some reason, virtually noone in Australia uses 64p, so none of the stores stock anything but 48p
the spacers are quite thin so they adjust your track only subtly compared to the variations you can achieve using the toe blocks & your front track should never be wider than your rear. The effect of adding spacers to the front will be more stability but less responsive steering, while adding spacers to the rear will give the rear end more grip
Now I've got a question. My car is pretty well sorted, however I'm getting a bit too much body roll (the sides of my chassis are scraping). If I want to maintain the balance of handling but reduce the body roll should I use firmer sway bars or firm up the springs?

reason 1: It doesnt break. great for old goof balls like me who cant mesh the gears well
reason 2: 415 is too quiet... I need to make noise...
Reason 3: Everyone uses 64.. so noone can borrow pinions from me and forget to return them

Reason 4: Life is so much simpler with less gear ratios to deal with

I finally got the car working reasonably well on asphalt. I think most of my trouble was tires, and general unfamiliarity with asphalt. The Muchmore Sweep 28's seemed to take a pretty bad beating considering the fairly mild temperatures.
Anyway, I'm still running the stock arms. Are the short arms the way to go on asphalt as well? Do the long (stock) arms work anywhere? It seems like the short arms the the popular choice everywhere. I guess I should pick some up.

i've tried the short arms twice and play around with the settings quite abit... but didnt really work out for me on asphalt. i only race on asphalt, and i feel that the standard arms are the best for me.
i use foams as we are allowed to.
anyone knows what does the centre oneway do to the handling?
