Default How To Mod Motors

I'm looking to get into some on road racing. I'm not familiar with organized racing though. I'm curious what mods if any can be done to a 27 turn ROAR motor, to get the most out of it. I've always heard about stuff that can be done to the brushes, but not sure what is rumor, what is true etc. Any advice from the experts?
