I'm new to r/c and I'm having trouble understanding the gear ratio application. I know that it tells you how many turns the motor is making, what I would like to know is what gearing to use for each type of track. I have a Yokomo MR4 that has a limited space for the spur gear.

Are you talking about gear roll out, or final drive ratio? Either one depends on the track, car, motor, batteries, and driving style. Lots of variables, no easy answer.
