I just got my Novak 13.5 motor #3413 and now i am shopping for an LRP comp. esc.I'm running lipo 3200 with a cutoff now.I still use my external novak cutoff right ?.The reason i ask is i saw someone selling the same combo last week and he stated that he had built in cutoff, but did not say if it was in the motor wiring or the esc software.

The updated Orion still has the holes in the can, and does have the new style solder tabs. Also, the rotor is 12mm (down from 12.5mm in the old motor), and does not have the internal fan. I didn't check to see if the ID of the stator changed, but I don't believe it has. The motor doesn't cog nearly as much as a LRP/sintered or the Novak with the 13mm-sintered. We'll see how it does on the track... eventually. Between being without parts and the constant snow, I may never get to race again. :-D

The LRP Comp when mode 1 is in LiPo mode it has a built in cutoff,
(pain in the @$$ if your running 4 cell and forget to switch to NiMh mode )

Don't trust the LRP LiPo cut off. Under certain condition it will let a LiPo pack discharge too much. Its best to use a timer in your radio to give you an alarm after 5 min or however long you want to practice.

Nah, just run for 5 min and see how much juice goes back into your pack. Lets say it end up being 1000mah after 5 min running a 13.5. If you want to be safe plan on using 80% of your pack's capacity. If you have a 5000mah LiPo you can run for 20 min (use 4000mah) with a 13.5 and be safe.

Set the timer in your radio for 20min and run until it beeps at you.

Honestly unless you are bashing you never want to run for longer than you plan on racing. My timer is set for 5 min. My practice runs are race practice runs. How my tires are working and my car is handling after 12 min is useless information to me.

The "updated" Orion 13.5 felt as weak as the original. I'm going to try it with a 13mm rotor and see if more torque helps. I've grown very disenchanted with the Feigao-based 13.5's. Maybe the Trinity and SpeedPassion versions will be better. I'm done buying 13.5's to find out, though.

fred71: I haven't heard of anybody trying them yet. The Trinity, SpeedPassion and Orion motors all originate from the same manufacturer. I'm not positive what the slight differences are between them, but my assumption is that they're all very similar. I'd wait to buy anything, and keep an eye on the results from the foam tire 13.5 and 10.5 classes at the Novak race next week. We should hear a lot more about what's fast, and what isn't.

Eh, just envision the rotor without the fan part on it. And, the connector where the harness plugs in is now black instead of white, which makes it blend in nicely. That's it. Oh, and the solder tabs now curl around the top so you can solder to the top of them (Novak style) or use the holes. I'll see about getting some pictures and comparisons later.

The motor is gutless. It seems like it has no grunt out of the turns at all. Maybe a fatter rotor will bring it to life.

Unfortunetly I think all but open mod are required to run the Novak motor so comparisons will be tainted.

Nope, foam is open manufacturer last I heard. If that remains true, 13.5 and 10.5 foam could be very revealing.

Rubber is Novak motors only. Foam classes are any motor.
