Who makes the Speedpassion 13.5? If I had to guess, I'd say Feigao but the higher wind SP motors look very similar to the LRP vector motors but with a lower build quality. They do not look like the Orion/GM/Trinity Feigao motors.

What burned up when you took it apart? The windings in the can or the rotor or both. I'm just curious.
I've been running the EX for a couple of weeks and I never ran the stock rotor. Went straight to the sintered rotor, no problems so far. I haven't pushed the gearing yet. Running around 4.9 @ 125F.will go down to 4.7 FDR and see what the temp is coming off. What did you gear yours at? The original rotor has some kind of plastic cover on it, I wonder if that's what burned up?

On my LRP Sphere's I run setting 2 on drag brake and to me that feels like the cogging of a 27T stock brushed motor.
Thanks for the pointers. Appreciated.

The motor is fine the speed control actually caught fire for a second. The power was definately comparable. This was the first race of the year for us so I don't have alot to go on as far as comparison. My son runs the car and he said it was better then he remembered the car ever being (had run co27's and monsters in the past) and the motor was only 84 degrees after the first 5min run. We definately needed alot more work in the gearing department but for his driving style this worked pretty good and were happy with the performance especially for being off so far in gearing. I just talked to my LHS and he said Novak just recieved it yesterday so I hope to hear soon what they say.

Default Orion vortex

Dont know if its been discussed yet but I was considering the orion 13.5 with a tekin r-1 system.

This would be my first forray into brushless and I want to know if there is any experience good or bad with these two items together out there.

Any info would be great.

I'm not knockin' the Tekin system, I am a HUGE fan of Tekin products....but they're new BL ESC isn't sensored and that's the one reason I won't buy their new ESC. just my opinion.

I dont see a hassle with it and have seen and read a few places that top drivers like Hara actually run sensorless.

Tekin are always innovative and im sure the R1 is going to be awesome.
I had a preorder for a few but have changed to the SpeedPassion GT and hope to have them in next week or two.

Tekin made a very deliberate choice to make the R1 sensorless. Im no expert but I have heard of several characteristics of the sensorless that to me sound very appealing.

I too am a big fan of Tekin and I have gotten a chance to meet Jim the prez. of Tekin several times. I just really hope it works because, so far no one has pulled off a perfectly functioning sensorless system in a car. Even a full Mamba Max system is still not perfect in starting feel, throttle feel and braking feel. It an awesome bashing power system but it is not on par with the top BR and BL sensored systems.

Racers are a harsh group...like I said I really hope it works.

I agree with Adrian. The only thing that gives me pause is that I've seen several instances where top drivers are using the GM Genius 95/100 without the sensors attached. Unfortunately, there seems to be very little information available (in English) about the ESC, and people's impressions of it in sensorless vs. sensored mode with the same motor.

Obviously a sensorless motor is more elegant since it doesn't require the harness. But, getting a brushless motor to have the right "feel" is a big deal, and apparently very difficult in R/C cars. I too hope Tekin gets it right, because they're a company you can't help but like. My childhood racing days were full of Tekin stuff.

The Mamba system soon will be about perfect and above par with the others..
