I heard Tower Hobbies is going to start subsidizing r/c tracks all across the country in an effort to bolster their market share of racers who are losing their home tracks due to the attached hobby shop having uncompetitive prices when compared to some online wholesalers (see also: retailers).

and then they're going to put kiosks in front of all the tracks for people to get help when the vehicle they bought online doesn't run right

Well, my lhs isn't open yet, and therefore I can't shop there. I am returning to r/c after a 5yr break and I am re-buying everything. I am a competitive racer that will spend money at the local track as soon as it is open. I actually went there last night for a bit hoping to buy some tires and they were busy working on the on road track design, so I will wait to buy them from the track. I would of bought everything from them if I could of.

Basically don't flame my thread if you don't know what you are talking about and how I spen my money. In the course of prolly $10,000 spent in the hobby $1500 of it has been online. There are some things that you just can't get at your lhs.

I actually live near ultimatehobbies.com and it's one of the best LHS in the world. You can make deals if you buy a rtr or kit from them. But when I was living in manhattan, there was no LHS around so tower was the only way.

We don't have any big fancy hobby shops around here in Latvia. A few tried to enter the market, but it's just too small to make any profit. One new has openned recently and looks quite prommising so far, but it's off-road oriented, so almost nothing for me here. Without online shopping there wouldn't be RC modelism in Latvia! Thanks to Hongkong and USA online stores
