Also yesterday running firmware 10.x Mode 8 (standard) I melted a Speedpassion 10.5 R running an FDR of 5.77 on a small outdoor track which last year I run

Motor: Novak SS 10.5
ESC: LRP Sphere TC 2007
FDR: 4.74

It seems to me the FDRs while slightly higher are not extreme so I dont know why I would have melted the motor?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Cheers

Paul
Not surprising you melted with those settings. You are overtimed, and the difference between FDR5.7 and say, 6.7 on a small track could be about 80 Euro. Lower your fixed timing setting to start with, and monitor temps. Look at post 1448, I hope this will save you money.

I am not sure I understand the reply. 4.7 is much more aggressive than 5.7. Is there something in my image [i330.photobucket.com/albums/l426/hedge1970/Mode9_GII.jpg] that you think I should adjust? Unfortunately the settings I show in the image are my v11.1 firmware running 9 profile, whereas I blew the motor on 10.x firmware running 8 profile.

Thanks for the help but I would appreciate you elaborating so I can save blowing another motor.

Cheers

I see OK I understand..I burned a 10.5 with FW10.2 also. Took a little while to find the limits. Indeed yes 4.7 is more aggressive than 5.7 but what I'm saying is 5.7 is most likely still too much especially with fixed timing 25 as pictured in your screen shot of FW11.1.

Forget the FDR used with the sphere - the new generation ESC's are a different breed entirely, and may take some time to really understand due to their complexity, just look at the size of some of the ESC threads..!

Your screenshot with mode 9 will almost certainly be too much for a 10.5 on a short track especially if technical.

Gear FDR 6.5 reduce fixed timing to 15 and temp every 2 minutes. Try powercurve 0 also. This is conservative and should be a safe way of proceeding until you get to know your equipment well enough to push it to the limit, but your car should be pretty quick anyway. The fixed timing slider will have a massive influence on temps given the other software settings. See how it goes from there.

If you use/are allowed to use a new style GM motor you can read temps after each run via telemetry and take advantage of the intelligent shut down technology saving you from burning another motor ever again

Hope this helps!

Hi guys....

I have most of the high end ESC's on the market at home to play with but have had trouble getting a GM ESC to play with at a sensible price/location. As it is only for stock I am looking at the 75 but have had little luck finding it. Any suggestions?

Cheers....

Hi,

Going to be setting my GM120 (not the 2010 ver) in my 1/12th with a 6.5t LRP x12 brushless. The track is a large hi bite track with tight infield. Can anyone give me a setup for the speedo. I have the link to the a PC so any setup files would be great. Also what sort of gearing/mmpr should I be looking at.

Cheers

Chris

Will you be running lipo or cells? For cells i think most people were running a sensorless mode 3, not sure on rollout. Possibly start around 42 and go from there

Software V 1.6.3 is the lastest for this speedo. Make sure you download and install the USB driver first as this cause myself and a friend problems in the start.

Both can be found on the GM webpage in the downloads section

Having just done this myself, below is what you want

GM website
gm-racing.de/index2.htm

All in German...

Install this first
USB-Treiber XP,2000,Vista für 7168.6 und Ultra-Ladegeräte

Then this, while it is the Beta the v1.6.0 does not have links to help.
AS-Soft V1.6.3 für GM-Genius xxx GII #9716x BETA

This is the software application that you need to upgrade the firmware
GM-Genius Firmware Upgrader V1.03

This is the actual firmware the .bin file.
Softwareupgrade V11.1 für GM-Genius xxx GII #9716x

Also once installed you need to do a factory reset in the ESC. This I acheieved by switching the ESC on press the button on the ESC to go into Mode selection. Then press and hold until lights and beeps again. This should have given you a factory reset. Then set your ESC to mode 9 and post the accelleration tab to this site and someone will check it for you.

Good luck
