Brand of battery? Charger? Amps, cycle rate? age of the pack? was the charger sharing a power strip? wires exposed? any previous damage to the pack? Pics? OR, did you post that to get attention......

Default OH MY GOD

OH MY GOD, the battery just exploded. It was sitting there by itself not being charged or discharged, it was in perfect condition with no swelling or dents, the charger could charge lipos and was in lipo mode, and IT JUST EXPLODED.

I shouldn't give any details about the battery, charger, mode, etc, I will just say BE CAREFUL to warn all of the RC community that these batteries are evil killers, who have no remorse.

BUT, please continue to buy the wonderful 10 run nimh 4200 batteries that have proven that they will not blow up, can play nice, and will remain faithful forever.

On a serious note, there are 100's of millions of cell phone li-ion batteries (similar chemistry) that don't blow up. The laptop batteries catching fire had to do more with people charging batteries while the laptops were on soft surfaces, so the heat couldn't dissipate, than with the li-ion themselves. The number of li-ion batteries used in r/c is a tiny fraction of those used in electronics, and they are obviously safe. If you really want to eliminate the "potential" issue with LIPO's, have everyone get an orion avionics lipo charger, $30, that is set and forget, and leave it at that.

I was at that race when that happened.

10amps + .05 dropback + redneck = Cell case buried in 2- 1/4" pieces of plywood!

Are you willing to put money down that our assumptions arent correct? I would pretty much guarentee he either used a cheap lipo, incorrect lipo for the application, charged it incorrectly, or damaged it.

My sentiments exactly. With all of the lipo cells out there and for one to undergo "spontaneous combustion", one has to either:

a:look at the user
b:look at what user was doing

Had dude bought some QUALITY packs and used a QUALITY charger, that info most certainly would have made the post.....along with PICS!. Considering that this is the web, we like PICS and DETAILS. Image going to the for sale forum and seeing, "Truggy, 50mph, barely used....$350"....we being the r/c enthusiasts that we are would want to know the brand, how old, pics, accompanying parts, damage if any", and any other pertinant information that one could relay. To make the sell valid, one needs information to draw a complete picture. socalbomber, you have sold us some wolf tickets. Name like "bomber", dude, this one is a dud!

Im not going to assume anything, thats how things get misinterpreted in the first place

If on the other hand there are facts that suggest what you are implying then fine, but im not a believer of speaking the unknown.

If youre right then fine, I havnt got a problem with that. But youre putting words out before you know the facts. Would that be considered wise?
