Default TC3 64 pitch gears

I'm thinking about changing over to a 64 pitch spur, what size gear should I start with?

I drove a TC3 for 3 years, put on a 64 pitch gear one time.. ran 3 laps in practice, didn't hit anything and stripped the gear going down the straight... went right back to my pit put the 48 pitch back in and never looked back... yea the fine tuning of gear ratios is great and all, but how many races will you dnf beacuse of that stupid gear stripping? The ratios for 48 pitch will get you close enough to be highly competitive, IMO stick with the durability.

I'm running 64 pitch (along with everyone else at my local track) and have gone through some pretty good crashes and never stripped the gears. Normally stripped gears are due to not properly setting the spacing or loose motor bolts.

Same here, been using 64 pitch for about 6-8 years on my touring cars(from Yokomos to a TC3 & now my FT TC4), & the only times I've ever stripped them is when I did a poor job setting the gear mesh. Granted, they do not offer the big edge in efficiency, but I like them for the adjustablility of ratios without changing the spur much. If you set them right, you WON'T have a stripping problem(but it DOES take some patience & practice to learn how to do it right every time)....

Ok I have never ran 64 pitch gears before so what is the best way to set the lash? I ran outdoor offroad for years with 48 pitch with no problems. This carpet racing is all new.

I have run the same 100T 64P spur on my TC3 for 2 seasons now. I run 64P gears because as an over racer, I already have a complete set of these gears and do not want to invest in a set of 48P's. I have even run 64P gears on a T3 off road truck without damaging the gear. I guess that if you are having problems, you need to learn how to better mesh your gears and tighten your motor screws. No matter what pitch of gear you run, If you do not mesh the gears correctly, you'll be having problems.

Have you guys tried PRS 64 pitch Touring Car Gears. Because they are machined they spin perfectly round so you can run a much tighter gear mesh. This should help with reducing the "stripping" issues. If you mate the PRS 64 pitch Touring Car Gears with our 64 pitch Pinions, you will also have the lightest pinion/spur combo on the market.

Dude, you cannot just say stuff like that...it's not true. If you stripeed a 64 pitch gear, you are not doing something right...either that or you were running defective gears. And I can hardly beleive that you will never use a 64 pitch gear based on 1 experience!
I ran 64 pitch in my TC3 for over three years. The only time I stripped a spur was when it was my fault. Not clamping the motor down tight enough or hitting something that would cause the cam to come loose allowing the motor to shift.

There's nothing wrong with 64 pitch.

I am still running a PRS 100tooth spur that I put on the car at least 5 months ago and I have run everything from stock rubber on asphalt and 19T foam on carpet with my TC3 and the spur is flawless. They hold up better than any other spur I have used over the years.
