I think I got the first vote in.

I pick NIC CASE and I think he'll top his 134 by running in excess of 150 with at least 2 of his 3 cars. Possible TOP SPEED 172

I was thinking around 150 mph will be the max speed.

Nick apparently did a 160mph run, but for some reason it wasn't classified as a legit attempt.

I agree, Nick Case speeds above 150. Nick is using proven equipment and he is used to driving at high speeds. how about 8 second lap times at the Encino Velodrome!!!!

From what Nic has told me, the radar gun wasn't set up properly and the data was erroneous. He thinks it wasn't going 160.

His testing so far this year has yielded about 140 mph. He has 3 cars entering in the contest. A 1/12 GMS drag car, an Electric Shumaker Fusion and a 1/10 pan car.

They wont be the fastest, but I hope one of the 1/18th entries just breaks the 100mph barrier.

I think some one is gonna crash going a speed that is gonna be absolutely insane, and they are gonna crash, and break lots of parts, and it's not gonna count.....actually I just think some poor guy is gonna break a lot of parts in a crash.

Last year Nick crashed his car backing up the alleged 160 run, I didn't see pictures but it ended his day.

from what I have seen and heard about most of the entries, there will be high speed handling issues. mostly form to much steering.

there are a lot of very exotic and fast cars coming, the stablest car at over 100 will win.

and I'll be there to witness it all!!!
I will try an video some of the runs. this is difficult to do because of the speed and the small size of most of the cars.

and when they crash...

well let's hope for the best.

Wayne,

I agree 100% on the steering and stability issue. I watch so many guys try to go fast with WAY to much steering in their cars....they get so twitchy especially with the downforce on the front ends at speeds...

Heck, what do we use 10% Dual Rate on the VELO going in Circles...and sometimes THATS too much.

LOTS of CASTER - TINY BIT of STEERING, and SLOW the rate down if you can.

...we do have a couple guys who want to try out new "STUPID FAST MOD" class at ENCINO this weekend. (OPEN MOD, brushed or brushless - 6 cell or LIPO) Nic was able to run the 250 meter track in about 8.4 seconds in his 4 cell MOD car. (Brushless) - so what will a 6 cell type car run?

That would be really close to 100 ft. per second.

Doing the math that's right around 70-71mph.

I hope to see a more competitive field this time around. Having several cars in the 130+ range would be very exciting. I'm having doubts if any will break 140...

gubbs - that would be correct - from a 4 cell MOD car with a NASCAR type body,
running a CIRCLE track...in 5 minute RACE trim (actually NIC was only able to run
his MAMBA for about 3:45 seconds...he kept DUMPING, but WAS fast getting there)

Here's a pic of the VELODROME track

Is it possible to use 3 radar (laser?) guns and take the average of the 3 guns? Or how about 2 timing lines (maybe infared or transponder based)? I mean, this event is so popular/important, it seems foolish to rely on just 1 radar gun.
