I bought a $19 servo from JR that weighs 9g, transit about .15 sec @ 22 ou. It makes the Spectrum Mirco look..... large. So far, it works fine. I just picked up the new motor, a Castle Creation 5.4kv. I will try to take some pic's later of my progress.

Jason, I have no doubt that sticking to asphalt is going to be harder then carpet without the weight..... but I say..... let try it!

Ok, I will see about getting a forum started on the website.

As for trying this whole test process out, i say lets do it. I will make a prototype car with all of the possible remedies i can think of to correct the suspension to work with the lighter weight in the pod. I am not as concerned about the chassis balance becauce that can always be compensated for being that the majority of the weight is in the rear anyway.

I will be releasing my DB10R immediately following the snowbirds and then it will be off to the test labs again. Oh the time i spent in there with the DB12R rear suspension. Im going back too soon.

it may take softer tires and softer springs...but I think in the end it can work

I guess I'm the only one that likes using the same type of motors in both my TC and 1/12 car? I see the future need for a lipo layout in the 1/12 cars but not necessarily a smaller motor that can only be used in a 1/12 car. just an opinion

Heck we could probably get away with using 1/18th packs even but let's not get too crazy

Personally I think 2 cell is the way to go for a few reasons...first off being the weight issue we've all been discussing, next is that it will make it easier for guys running 1/10th classes to run 1/12th as well as the packs would be the same, lastly at 1 cell we'll need to run a reciever pack (ugh!) where 2 cell will not have that issue even up into mod classes.

I'll be happy either way. I like the idea of the smaller motor because I think we'll be able to do more with the cars with the additional room it will give. Either way something is not going to carry over from 1/10th to 1/12th. Same size motors and the batteries are likely to be different. Same sized batteries and the motors are likely to be different.

I don't think there's any way your going to fit a lipo pack designed for a 1/10 car into a 1/12 car, way too big. Somethings gotta happen though cause I don't see nimh being around for our use in a couple of years

the orion packs range from 3200 to 4800?? and are the same size give or take half a millimeter. They aren't using up the whole pack, so one really wonders if that 3200 will get down to. They only need to shape it to 23 high, ~93 long, and i'm measuring 49.xx on my db12r and then it would fit the majority of cars for touring and/or the oval guys might like this size as well. The cells can be made.
hell the max amps 4K mAh saddle pack is nearly 2 oz lighter than my fresh EP4600s.

jason is right about being too light. then you must consider all the tires in your box. will it be soft enough.. things to think about.

1/12th for many years was 6 cell for outdoor pavement racing. Not to mention how much room will be gained by the smaller pod for the smaller motor. Might have to do it with a saddle pack but it should be doable.

I know, I tried 6 cell with a stock motor "back in the day" and even back then it was borderline uncontrollable. I just don't want to "blow up" the conventional designs of 1/12 cars apart from making them somehow lipo (1 cell) friendly

That may prove to be true. But if it does work it can lower the cost of racing for the class to to mention the possibilities that can open up from it in terms of body design and chassis design. That makes it at least worth a serious investigation for the betterment of the hobby.

In 1/10 pan ALL my wings were mounted directly to the pod. Some bodies had a built in aerofoil (like the Nissan) but my preference was the Jag (XJR10? McAlister?) with a nice big wing hung from the top pod plate sticking out from behind.

Sorry Brian--you're a handsome enough fellow, but I make it a rule never to "bare" with guys.
