It's not a question of access. It's a question of balance. I'd rather know the pod is balanced and have to build the pod around the motor, than to have easy access to a motor I'm not removing anyway in an unbalanced pod.

Unless, that is, pod balance isn't really a significant factor. That's the question.

Yes, i meant a weight balanced pod. not for motor access...
i am only using brushless so i hate to by a kit now if a brushless specific kit is around the corner

cheers

Many have said it doesn't matter if the motor isn't balanced in the pod due to the straight axle. I was thinking that way too until someone brought up the left side drive for oval racing from back in the day to bias the pod weight on the left deliberately. Now I'm not so sure.

I would like to make a centered pod for brushless to ease the minds of some. There is absolutely no benefit other than cosmetic and added space for motor installation. The offset is only 3mm bias to the left. In order to have any variance in the rotation from left to right, you would need to offset the pod mounting positions and also offset the motor more than 3mm. I will probably do a revamp on the car before the end of the year but it will not be anything that cannot be updated for a very reasonable price. I have never been keen on using the general public as lab rats with 4 or 5 different pods per year or constantly changing the car. We do alot of testing before releasing the products and they are no gimic products when we release them. Being that brushless has pretty much become the dominant choice of motor, i will center the motor for the purpose of easy brushless motor installation. The reason why we have left the pod to be ideal for brushed motor placement is for the gyro effect created by a brushed motor under acceleration. The large diameter, heavy armature can cause a car to torque steer under acceleration if the gyro effect of the arm is not centered. Brushless motors have a small, light rotor that produces minimal gyro effect. This is why it is not needed to center a brushless motor. I can do it and give you a big song and dance about how it is needed but then i would be blowing smoke to pump money out of you wallets. I dont work that way.

I'll volunteer to be a lab rat We've got a nice not so high bite track to test on...probably good testing for those people who don't get to run on nice purpose built asphault tracks or indoor carpet.

We do send out product for testing but just not at the expense of the public.

Jason

thanks for your thorough response! i guess this means i should go ahead and by the DB12R knowing i can add the upgraded pod later on to the existing kit.

cheers
