Is BL taking the eXcitment out of MOD ?
#1

At this weekend nats, the majority was running BL in mod, if Barry wasn't out there running his brushed motor, I would of thought that the stock class was running.
BL makes no NOISE!!!!!!
Mod Brushed motors sing, sound like an F15 fighter jet taking off.
One of the thrills of going to the Reedy Race was the sounds of racing,
didn't make it there this year and hear if the BL's made any noise at all.
Could you just imagine going to a full size car race, pick your fav, F1, LeMans, drags, Nascar and them all having stock street mufflers, talk about DULL.
With all BL's in mod, it's like watching an SCCA showroom stock race, great close racing, but:
if they ain't makin' noise, they ain't goin fast!

Nope, way over my head.
But I sure as hell like the sound of speed!
I do have a couple of nitro's, 1/10 onroad and 1/8th buggy, but we dont run those at the indoor onroad tracks.
You ever go to a parking lot race in a shopping center? when the nitros run they draw the crowds, or the mods run, they also draw the crowds.
It's more the noise than the speed that makes it eXciting.

I like the cardboard trick.
I think the brushless motors are louder than the brush motors, they just sound different (They sound like a big gush of wind execpt the Novaks).

Dude, you are so full of crap. First, nitro guys always whine that they get beat by the "whir" of brushless, second, electric guys run electric because we like the whir of electric and thirdly, now we have an "electric" guy whining that the motors are too quiet....or is it that the BL motors spanked your ancient brushed motors and you are pissed?!?!? I tell you what..head to toys r us, they have an electric batman truck that has an "engine noise" button, maybe that way, you'll be happy. I know running the 3.5 Novak, against other BL mods, theres enuf noise!

Pretty funny there bxpitbull, and a Marine that doesn't like noise, what, the DI's wear silencers now?

so I guess youve never been to a big race with 10 mods with brushed motors at full song down the strait, makes the hair on your arms stand up.
Just like a BL, after a couple of beers, I also make that whooshing sound.

Around here in Seattle, stock and 13.5 are 2 separate classes, I run stock.
I dont have anything against BL, I just think that the lack of a good scream at full tilt is boring, maybe they can come up with a little tab that rubs on the spur and is tunable to sound fast would help.
But at the nats, the stock motors sounded faster.
Next time you go to a race, close your eyes and listen, can you tell if its stock brushed or mod BL.

I love BL motors, but I much prefer the sound of brushed, and agree that there's some connection between the sound and our perception of speed. To me, the BL motors without the internal fan sound like Dust Busters.
There's an aftermarket for ya. Internal fans for motors that don't have them, tuned to create different sounds.
