About gearing, How should a Speedpassion motor be geared compared with a LRP equivalent? (especially for mod motors)

The 10.5 with an SP GT speedo at the defualt 18.75* timing needs more gear than a LRP/Novak 10.5 combo but its is just as fast.

I am going to try running more timing and backing down on the gear at the same time next. I think we can afford to lose some bottom end and try to gain some top end with more timing to increase the RPM and less gear to reduce the resulting heat. I just need to find the balance.

Has anyone run the 2.5 yet? How does it compare to the 3,5's from other companies like LRP, Novak, Orion etc?

i.e. For the sake of argument, if the Novak is running 5, would the SP motor need 4.7 or 5.3?

I know those numbers are not directly relevant, but it would be nice to know roughly how to gear them to begin with.

Hey Skiddins:
I found with my limited testing so far that I preffer to go down 2 teeth from what I geared my Novak. I based this on temperature mainly - preformance remained pretty much the same after gearing down. So for your sake of agrument - I would go to 5.3 FDR. However, the issue of timing has come into play and that part I haven't started playing with yet. But for straight interchange of Novak vs Speed Passion I geared down.

The 13.5 is either the same as a Novak or has little more power.

The 10.5 is about the same as a Novak 10.5.

Guys racing the 13.5 are very happy

Guys racing the 10.5 are still learing it and what gearing and timing it takes to get the most speed.

Are these motors going to be "Roar" approved as they are today?

Cheers, that's exactly the kind of info I was after.

My current ESC, Nosram ISTC (LRP Sphere) has fixed timing so that's not a worry just yet.
I can't bring myself to spend on an SP GT yet.

Yes, they are already built to ROAR specs and they just need to be submitted for approval. This is being done right now.

What timing has everyone been running on the GT with a speedpassion 3.5? I ran mine for the first time last night on 18.75, the motor on B, geared 9.8 on a fairly large indoor track and was supprisingly close to dumping my ib4600's.

whats the difference between advanced timing on the motor itself vs. in the software of the speed control? is 18.75 on the motor the same as 18.75 in the sofware? and at the same time... is say 5 deg on the motor and 13.75 in the software the same as both of the other options?
