The Speed Passion GT ESC is the real deal.

Kevin Kane is running one at the Novak Touring Car Champs and is sitting 7th in 13.5 Rubber which was the largest class. Steve Marker may have been running the GT ESC as well and qualified 10th.

Try convincing Steve he's not a factory driver after tomorow. That SOB told me he was going to pass the other drivers like gall stones!

I know for a fact that Steve is running a SP motor in his foam car.

Point taken and thanks for the explanation. So meaning I can safely say that the newer Feigao series should be a faster motor.

After a long day of testing the motor was insanely fast using a 48mm rollout. Crazy top speed and crazy rip. Motor temped high 180s I dont know if this is pushing the envelope temp wise but using the 140-150 temp range the motor is a fast stock motor at best.

Kevin is running a Novak 13.5 motor, as the rules required it for the rubber tire class.

Ah, I totally forgot rubber was Novak only. Cool, good to see the ESC is doing well. Its programming options look smooth, especially with the handheld unit. That's cool Kane and Marker made the show, congrats to them both.

How long were you running per test session? Our track is like 85' x 50' (skypilot chime in here) and I'm running a 36mm rollout. Temps are about 145-degrees max. I haven't played with more gear than that but in a 6min run I'm gonna have to find out what kind of speed (if any) I can get in that temp range. I'm loving the SP stuff though the more I play with it

Jaybee can you tell us what that rollout is in Final Drive ratio?

They did well in at Novak. Market did not want to risk switching over electronics the day of a big race so he still ran a GTB. Kevin was running the Speed Passion GT for sure.

--

I tested the SP GT again today after stopping by to watching some of the Novak mains...

With a Novak 13.5 it definitely rips. Playing around with timing and gearing I think is the key to getting it even faster. But the default/recommended settings work just as good as the GTB.

Running a SP GT and SP 10.5 it seems you really have to gear it up. I'm not sure what sns820s 48mm rollout is equal to in final drive but we were running close to 4.6! The motor really came alive at that ratio. This was tested with both a SP GT and Novak GTB.

It's gonna be a bit different since I never run my foams as big as a rubber tire would be but what I can tell you is that my pardnur (skypilot) is running somewhere between a 5.1-5.5FDR w/the SP10.5 & GT on rubbers. Btw...his car is smoking fast. He can tell you more though

Yea I'm sure the tracks we run on are different sizes. But I do think the SP motors like more gear then Novaks.

with sp 10.5 i'm using a 85/29 off the top of my head i think thats 5.28 on rubber sorex premount 28's timing at 18.75 and punch at 6. i'm very happy, so happy i quit testing with it and put it away until our next series race in a couple of weeks, with the sp10.5 in a b-4 i was only able to gear it to 81/30 and it needs a couple of more teeth, at least to get the feeling i was looking for, (running in the open mod class)

I ran the SP 13.5 in the foam class at Novak. I didnt do that great but I can say the SP was faster than my Novak. However, a few of us were talking about how BL motors may start to lose their punch and top in after running them for a while. A while is something like a year or so and running the motor over 160-180 degrees. I was going to buy a new Novak 13.5 and see how they compared but they sold out. I also tried to get an arm, but sold out at the race. Once I get back home, I going to do some heads up testing - new vs new. One thing I can say is the the SP didnt like me gearing it the same as the Novak and I went down two teeth.

I'm also going to do some testing with the Speedos once I get home. Like Nexus said, I was a bit scared to which over at the big race too. I was trying to get both my rubber car and foam car up to speed and figured I should work on setup. I know Kane was running the SP GT speedo - I'll let him give his opinion and thoughts.

What timing and punch settings did you end up running?

Hmm...we need a speedo setup sheet...see below.
