I have to ask, I know it will sound stupid but what the hey! My eyes are seeing all the electronics on the left side of the car and the battery on the right side and I know the top guys do very well like this, but my brain is screaming "Surely their cars are unbalanced and inconsistent turning left vs right?????"

How do they deal with balance and ride height? do they pre-load the springs? do they not care and run the left side half a millimetre lower than the right?

Please help my confused little brain! I want it to understand how it works and stop questioning what my eyes are seeing.

It's usually so little that people dont really care...also depends what gear you're running. Some people are running the reciever on the battery side if running heavy brushless stuff.

John, thanks for posting the link to your page and the pics of the cars. Is it my eyes or is Andy Moore running a 5 cell chassis?

If so I wonder if this was specifically made for a carpet race or if it is a development chassis for ashphalt? I can't say i have seen Andy's car on its roof to often at Nationals to notice if he using one now...I will have to have a look at West London in a couple of weeks time!

I am having a job in 5 cell at the moment from stopping the car feeling twitchy, i can't seem to get a stable car, the front end is always very aggressive and swaps end. Will running the cells rearward help smooth out the steering? in theory i think this would hinder the balance as while entering a corner the weight would be transferred to the front resulting in an even more agrressive front end...

Also has anyone else had issues with torque steer...with a belt drive??

Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris. No, its just a std 6cell chassis, Andy just put some "carbon look" tape at the rear battery slot. He did it so well that the slot cannot be seen!

Please do check it out and take a pic or two if you can, although I don't know if the top drivers will be attending your Nationals as they all are getting ready for the Euros..

It's strange you mentioned that.. my car actully feels a bit smoother with 5cells, especially with the front battery placement.
Yes, I'd also say that the rear position for the cells would make it less stable entering a corner.
Try and rebuilt your car from scratch, and check all little details, i.e. screws being straight, suspension shafts etc.
Then try a set up that is common, one that Andy uses at the Nats.

I never had such a problem, never felt any "pulling" from any side with the Cyclone.

lol, i was affraid you would say that John, it must be something I am doing! I have stripped the car many a time and made as sure as i can that the chassis is flat, wishbones free, shock lenths and droop equal etc... maybe a new chassis is in order just to make sure.

I will try again!

That Mr Moore is a dab hand with the carbon tape!!

Thanks
Chris

3Racing has just come out with a 2mm 5cell chassis for the cyclone that I've thought about trying out... $35 on rc-market from HK.

+gaz

That looks very impressive...

Post some more photos with electronics neatly installed and maybe some details regarding left/right balance.

HB 5 cell chassis in development, tested at Reedy 2007.
Only the correct battery position, level of front or rear bias, is left to determine.
