As a small time race director - I put on 10 races a year over a 12 month period... I try to get our oval guys motivated to show up and do the required travelling for our series (which covers central and southern california)

I also love to race at others events - when I have time. I'll get my son and/or a buddy all exciting by talking up the last race - doing some smack talk about who's going to beat who - and get them excited about the upcoming race.

I like to travel to races - usually in a 120 - 200 mile range. Once in a while a long road trip to Phoenix or Las Vegas is cool too - and hopefully next year (4th of July weekend) it will be off to FREDDIES in OHIO for Next Years ARCOR WORLDS. (One of these days - maybe to the SNOWBIRDS - but that's really not my kind of event... I prefer an event with about 75-100 entries that you can do in 2 days and have enough track time to enjoy yourself...) I don't think I could handle a full week straight - and no sleep - and 700+ racers at an event anymore. (BUT - that kind of a race is something EVERYBODY should check out at least ONCE in the racing lives)

How many don't run or race when they are not competitive. Be honest. Thanks!

Its a great weekend for racing. I'm already outside the fence halfway in the car when I ask myself. Should I stay home today? Then decide I'm practically there, just start the car and go .

She also prefers me racing R/C than going out in the boat (which I since have sold) or taking out the real 4x4 truck. When R/C car breaks I can pack up and go home if I don't have the parts. When 4x4 breaks I patch it up to get it to the HWY and call the tow truck. No sleep sometimes, just shower and go to work. R/C is easier on the body than the 4x4ing.

..if I only went to races that I was competitive at - I'd have a lot of HOME time... As a RACER - I make a great race director... and I'm by no means either.

But, I have been enjoying this hobby for 22 years - and I've had my son involved now for 7 years (he's 15) and when I want MY car to have a shot at winning - I GIVE IT TO HIM to drive...because he can OUT WHEEL ME anyday of the week (Dam Kids)

i'm sure all the married folks all have the same answers.. i have to choose between fun with the wife and 3yo twins, and racing.. i try to race once a month.. unless there is aspecial event that i really want to attend.. i am blessed with a wife that loves how happy racing my cars makes me.. as far as my hobbies, and i have lots, racing my cars is hands down, far and away, what i like doing the most.. i enjoy the cars, i enjoy the people (usually ha ha) and i enjoy the competition.. i must say i am posatively thrilled about getting to meet and race with the many folks i have chatted with in florida when i move back there..

Tradition of telling my wife the day before I go racing... "its wednesday tomorrow so i'll be going racing straight after work"

I got used to saying it with a stiff upper lip so she doesnt back down

Seriously, the only thing that has made me consider quitting racing is not my wife, BUT just the narrow minded idiots that like to laugh when your days racing isnt going as planned.

But I got used to their ways and I think they realise with that mentality bad words about any club can easily spoil their club and their racing. It's VERY easy to go elsewhere and tell others your experiences of a club!

Mitch hit the nail on the head. It's just a given that I will race every weekend. The motivation is always there. I just hope things don't get in the way, you know stupid things like family functions, personal injury, the birth of a child...

Honestly not sure anymore. The local RC scene is beginning to get f#cked up with arrogant 15-19 yr old kids racing, mouthing off, etc and driving around like a bunch of hacks literally pushing you out of the way and off the track. I work 6 days a week and if I race on Sunday, thats every day committed for me and on my leisure day it's no longer any fun having to deal with arrogant little shits, or the racers whose old man lives through the kid winning a toy car race.

Tempting to give the rc racing away right now, and use Sunday to head down the park with me Baja and chill

Just my $0.02

Don't worry about what I'm doing.
Worry about why you're worried about what I'm doing.
