Default Channel Separation?

Two identical recievers. One has channel separation as 20KHz, the other 10KHz. What does this mean? Is one better than the other?

The one with 10KHZ separation is called narrow band compliant which all reciever/transmitters had to be after 1991 or so. Both should work just fine as most are running DSM of some kind anymore.

The receivers are 27MHz AM. Im using the 20KHz one now and its fine, but I want to get the 10KHz one because it is smaller in size.
So the 10KHz one is newer?
Im not 100% on what DSM is, but I dont think Im running that. Does it matter in this case?

Thanks for your replys...
