HVAC, it appears you are chatting with 415boy. I would like to remind you that you can put him on your Ignore List, like I did. It works great.

Higher heat setting means faster heat build up, so the max difference is reached sooner. Both heat setting and the time you leave it in matters.
aluminium expands nearly twice as much as steel. If they were two similar materials the housing would still expand more due to geometric conditions, bigger diameter expands more than smaller.

Hey guys,

I've got a revised Orion 10.5 (the one without the fan), and I've been running fairly succesfully with it recently, but I'm still not certain I've got the settings quite right. Compared to a friends Novak SS, it seems to run rather hot, and lacks a bit of brakes. Top end feels better, but seems to a lack a little coming out the corners

I've seen some comments about needing to run it with timing advance, and gear up, but given I seem to be hot already, I'm a bit sceptible at doing so.

Current settings
LRP TC Spec with settings of 1, 6, 0, 4 (power profile 6, drag brake 4)
Geared at 5.99 fdr (10.5SS is at 5.5 iirc), motor temp around 165-170įF
(Track size usually has 27t monsters at 8.2-7.9 or so, if that helps.)
Motor timing is as it comes from the factory.

Thoughts?

Regards

Ah, I get it now, you want to be right. Well, try this one. For the bearing the piece that matters here is the outside ring (in fact the only thing left). However the hole in the housing is actually a lot smaller than that and by your accounts would prevent the housing from expanding as it is SMALLER diameter.

As to expanding nearly twice as much, you could be right. 0.0002 inch is twice 0.0001 inch. So assuming that is how far the housing would expand at this temp compared to the bearing ring I guess that is in line (over it in fact) with what you are saying. However think on this, as the housing heats up quicker (it is on the outside), it will hit 0.0002 BEFORE the bearing ring will hit 0.0001. SOOOO if you wait too long the difference will only be 0.0001 inch in this example which might not be enough to let the gearing ring work free. Take it out a bit sooner though and you may find that the housing has expanded 0.00015 inch while the bearing ring only expanded 0.00001 inch. Difference now is 0.00014 inch or 40% more than if you wait until steady state.

If you still cannot follow the logic........

Look mate, whatever you say I'm not bothered. Point is if he can't do it by heating up then the only way is to machine it out.

Ed

Id say that overgeared a bit mate tbh, we only run novaks and nosrams on 5.77 ish at maritime.
Dont forget the sphere has built in 30deg of advance so normally u can gear a little higher.
You settings are the same as i run with the speed passion but i run no drag brake and punch level 7.
I have found the car sooooooooooooo much quicker with no drag brake.
