You can gear a 4.5 longer, but i dont think the rip is comparable to the 3.5. Try lowering the timming, removing drag brake and be gentle on the throtle

BTW, 180F seems high... whats the airtemp?
5.5 is plenty fast geared around 7.1 fdr

if you are having runtime issues ill try the 4.5 and the 5.5 . i ran the 4.5 this past sunday and i used 1300mah less with the 4.5 than with the 3.5. but i used a lipo pack so run time for me is not an issue. I had the 4.5 geared around 8.5fdr and it was almost as fast as the 3.5

when you adjust the timing on the mamba esc would it change the motor timing the same way it does to the mamba motor.

the mamba esc cannot run under 6 cells..........could this be aslo art of the runtime issue? (Esc using up too much power)

would a LRP TC esc use less power allowing the use of Vortex 3.5/ 5 cell?

I would have to say yes because ur adjusting the timing through the esc & where does the motor get its control from?

Thatīs cool, im in europe so i prefer centigrades anyway.

In my experience there is visible difference between the 4.5 and 3.5 motors, both in performance and consumption. runtime can be a big issue with 3.5 on BIG tracks (here we drive 1/8 track mostly) and 5 cells. Like i said, when looking for runtime i usually change the timming first. If that doesnt help i change for the 4.5

Barber, since you have both, how do you campare the mamba 7700 with the 3.5, both in performance and smothness?

Thank you

first to me two totally different motors smoothness i would have to say the 7700 until castle comes up with a program to run the orion/mamba combo and performance the 7700 can take more abuse the motor would melt first before it stops wat ever you give to it it will take.

do you retard or advance the timing to get longer runtime.

thanks

i retard the timming, that is, i turn backplate clockwise. According to Team Orion go only 1-2 milimeters at each try. Good luck

Nice...I was beginning to think the motor or ESC had issues...How can these motors be 10.5 but be able to gear them so much lower than other motors like Novak, LRP, etc...? Its amazing how low they can go and still work great with lower temps...
