Default gearing a trf414mII

i'm racing a trf414mII right now and using a p2k2 pro. i'm planning to race outdoors and i was wondering what kinda gearing i should use? Using 48 Pitch

should i try to gear my car the highest its can go?
any tricks on testing if i'm over gearing? (motor heating?)

one more trf question..

is their any way to keep the batteries down without using battery tape. i hate that stuff it takes like 5 minutes to get that stuff on the car.

i think the world champion used wire straps. its a good idea but then the ones i used scrape the ground. does anyone know where to get thin, bendable wire straps?

does anyone use something else besides wire straps and battery tape? thanx

Try to start with a high gear ratio number like 7.0, then bring it down if you hear the motor at the same rpm still trying to get to the end of the straight. The heat could also tell you, but more importantly listen.

As for battery hold downs. I like a product by Dan's, Dans battery straps are great for every day use, but for nationals type racing then tape's the only way to go!!!
