I think I noticed more punch when I used it. I charged my batteries quicker and cooler using the 4-step mode.

For IB3800s, I used a program like this

Step 1 to 800mah I charge at 2.5 amps
Step 2 to 3800mah I charge at 6.5 amps
Step 3 to 4100mah I charge at 4.5 amps
Step 4 to 4800mah I charge at 2.5 amps

Much of the time, my IB3800s get to 4400mahs before it peaks. I always discharge and balance my pack before I 4-step though.

You can choose your own 4 step options too. Just remember to start your charge slow to get the pack ready for intense charging. Then adjust your 2nd step for as long as you want to charge at that rate for, then slowly ramp it down to finish the charge. My packs rarely get over 100F ever when charging. The only time they do get over 100F is when I don't balance or deep discharge them for too long.

I use the tekin battery doctor, so I think that discharges each cell to .5V
