Some random thoughts of the 2008 Snowbirds…..
First impressions… Scale: 1 - bad 10- best
2007 2008 Comments
Hotel: 2 7 2008 would be higher if elevators worked, no big problems….
Track location: 5 7 I could see the track better last year maybe the higher ceiling this year. 2008 had plenty of room for people to watch the race as well as pit near the track.
Track layout: 8 7 The corner/bend at the end of the straight on this years layout made DNFs for Oval and Road racers.
Track border: 7 9 So much easy on car parts and the switch from onroad to oval was a snap…..
Schedule/etc: 8 7 Hotel feed was intermitted and sometimes it was hard to find out what race was up. It would be nice if a projector could put on one of the walls so everyone can see who was leading/etc. The announcer had trouble keeping up at times through no fault of his. The heat sheet that was taped to the wall was hard to read unless you close to it. The internet was flaky at times thus requiring to close IE and open a new window….
Now the good, the bad and the ugly…….
The good: racing again was the best, congrats to everyone for behaving…. The effort put in my Mike and his crew out did themselves. Tech guys was great. The A and B mains had some of the best door to door racing I’ve seen in a long time…. Being able to get your lap times right after running was GREAT!!!!!!!!!!
The Bad: Every time I turned around I ran into Billy Easton… The elevators… The same floor and wing …. The pool …. Hell, even at the airport.. I was flying to DC and they switched the gates…. As I waited for the flight to board who sits down but Billy… Seems he was going to Milwaukee and his flight was next…. The cameras were so far away from the track you really could not see the action……
The Ugly: The open practice sessions was like Russian Roulette, when you have 12 cars on the track with a mixture of sedan mod, stock sedan and 12 scale on the track at the same time bad things can happen…. And I’d like to thank the Factory driver ( he knows who he is ) that ( at 5:55 AM on Thursday ) walked out on the track to get a buddy’s car and forgot that other PEOPLE may be trying to get a couple of laps in and stepped on the front end of my 12 scale, I guess I should not have been on the racing line… He looked down like he stepped in dog shit and just walked away and left my car dead on the track.… Not even a sorry… I kinda wished I had yelled something from the drivers stand but at the time I was a lost for words on why he just walked away… A couple of people who saw it told me to go
to the race director and complain… I chose not to because the first round of qualifiers was starting. I bent/fixed the car best I could in 10 minutes but after 3 laps I parked it and sat on the drivers stand stairs….. I could not fix it in time and missed the second round, I had 2 other cars to get ready to run…..
Overall 8.5 And can't wait until next year....

And one last item....
To Barry Baker, Ernie P of Trinity and other at the table...
Please accept my most humble apology.... After my Pats went up 7-3 I stopped by your table to gloat and then go pack up for the trip home.....
Little did I know that the fans of the 2008 Super Bowl Winners were at that table.....
Hmmm... I wonder if Barry will remind me of this.....
