Only you can answer the question,If your ready for mod. Be prepared for rebuilds more often.

The Novak 13.5 brushless, is the 27T brushed equivalent (or at least Novak's attempt at it). The Novak 13.5 brushless is a bit faster. However, it will be an easy transition for you.

not if i went to brushless
i am just a bit bored of stock at the moment so i figured a 4.5t brushless would make it more fun again and i would have more time working on my set-up etc.

Well get yourself a 13.5 SS and a 4800 lipo and go from there. If not go to 19t or the 10.5 . Just because your tired of cutting and replacing the brushes and working on the motor springs doesn't mean your ready for a mod brushless (4.5).We assume that your racing somewhere - see what they other racers are racing. The 19t class(10.5) is a great in between class.Presently I'm running the 13.5 and still playing with the gear ratios to go faster( one year now).Extremely competitive with one year old 4200's and 3800's and a 13.5(proto type motor and esc).
Looking at getting some lipos soon probably the 4800's from peak/orion.

yeh 19t is a great mid range point, they are still fast but still moves you up form stock and improves your driving, which is what its all about. If you think you are good enough then sure move to mod but i think it would be safer moving to 19t then going out and buying all your brushless 4.5 and everything, but the 10.5 is an ace motor!

making a similar leap. from 23/27/19 all the way to 4.5R... keeping my fingers crossed. unfortunately, we don't have a 13.5 or 10.5 class here, so i have no choice but to jump in.

i no but i would really like to go to mod (4.5)
if i did and it was too fast i could always drive it with limited throttle (until i got used to it) or is this a bad idea?

Bad idea. Running mod is much more than running a faster motor. Car set-up needs special care, you will need more parts, and the power from the mod motor will put much more strain on your car, meaning much more replacing and maintenance to the car including tires, etc. You'll also need to be on point with gearing, etc.

I agree with edseb, making the jump from 27t to a 4.5 brushless would be a bad move. Others have pointed you in the right direction, 19T, or you can also try 10.5 Brushless (Novaks close to 19T equivilant). If you really want to go brushless I think this would be a safer move than slapping in a 4.5. The 10.5 will be a good bit faster than the Stock motor, without being so fast you get frustrated

Default 10.5

definetely try the 10.5 first...or equival then work your way up.
4.5 is crazy fast ..and will hurt your pocket but the biggest impact might be that you will get frustrated quick.

Ok, now that the naysayers have had their fill, let me tell and accenuate the positive. If your budget allows, go up to mod in increments, say the 8.5. Yes, you will have to adjust your set ups and yes, you will have to adjust your driving skills and yes gear ratios play a BIG part, but you know what, do it. If your car is set-up properly, you will have to do maintennance REGARDLESS. Most people work on their vehicles after race day and running mod will be no different. If you crash in stock, you will crash alot in mod. You will have to spend a few extra sheckles on parts, and definately (if not already), some quality cells. Remember this, upgrade drive and learn. If you dont like it, you can step down. If you like it and do well, you can smack nitro cats around for awhile. Stock is for shelves!

Bottom line you will never learn to go faster until you try to go faster.
Other options are the 4300 & 5800.

GO FAST AND TRY NOT TO CRASH! Its more fun.

Slower is consistent not faster. I'm in the same boat. I am so tired of slow I threw in a 4.5 and never broke. You just have to not over drive it you''ll be surprised at how much easier it really is just use some trigger control and you'll be fine. I say you will never know either way unless you experience it hands on.
Go for it.

i done stock for a year, and then done 19t for 3 months and went straight up to 3.5r brushless with my mi3.

I LOVE IT, it's so fast and i have so much grip with my new car.
