Just tested the Orion Vortex 2008 4.5t motor. I have to say I'm a little bit disappointed, because you are right about the punch and rpm. Punch is OK, but could be better and it has less rpm than a Speed Passion.
I compared the motor with a Speed Passion 4.5t which a friend of mine drove, and he had more punch and top end (same ratio).

On the other hand, the motor gave me a lot of 'feel'. Really easy to dose the throttle and very easy to drive. Suitable for low bite tracks and/or technical tracks. I was amazed by the fact it really lets the car roll for miles.....very smooth.

To be honest, I would go for a Speed Passion or something comparable.

I use AE shock ends and spring retainers. Cut the shock end down 2mm.

Where did you find the black shocks? They haven't made it to the USA yet.

how come this thread so quiet?? no race coming up ??

my local track will have a HPI challenge 2008 stock race on this sunday...

there will be 4 serpent racers joinin d race and competing with HB racers......

i notice if we remove the rear 2 pc screw that holding d plate for Spur pulley will make d car more flex and easier to drive in low traction track...i'm not sure if it's just my feeling or it's reli work....so just gv it a try and let me know....

hehe

Hmmm dont know about loosening screws on the center shaft. Won't it wear out the bosses for the bearing or cause a wobble???
Try putting 'O' rings under the top plate between the plate & bulk head. One or two o-rings with two screws, it soften it up.

There are still the other 4 3x6mm holding the rear plate on so nothing will wear out. I lost those 2 screws so I just took them off of both cars but I didn't notice any difference in handling from removing them...

I rarely clean my tires but motor spray takes most of the sauce off from the previous run if I do clean them.

+1 WD-40 is a solvent, so it actually helps with traction as well. After a run I wipe the tires down with wd-40, throw them onto my tire warmers, then 25min before the race, bake 1 of my tire compounds in, then wipe off, and bake another 1 in that I use that keeps the tires from being too sticky and having all the dust stick to my tires from asphalt racing.
