I support Chubbs in his criticisms of the race. There seems to be an unwritten rule on these forums to put a big smiley face on everything, and avoid any negative publicity in fear of scaring away new racers.
There are problems, and they are numerous. I'm not going to bother repeating what's already been said.
The Cleveland directors need to understand that they're no longer 1 of only 2 premier onroad races anymore. 20 years ago, there was the Nats (just 1 of them) and the Champs. You have competition now. Cleveland in November isn't exactly the most appealing destination to a racer that can only afford 1 large event each year. Giving up Thanksgiving day is also an issue that many racers with families must struggle with. "Tradition" is only going to get you so far.
In order to keep this race viable, it is essential that the race program be the best of the bunch. You're already behind the other races due to the above factors, so you need to make up for it in other areas. Otherwise, what's the attraction? When I ask my wife, "Of all the races in which we could attend together, which do you prefer?", without hesistation she answers "Vegas". I'm sure I'm not the only one. This is what you're up against.
Finally, in order to address Joe's request for a conference room for locals to pit: Since the hotel has an issue with that, how about getting the event rate on a couple of suites that the locals could share?
