what class are you running? because mods sure wear tires alot faster than stocks, and whats the surface like, we usually run 32's or 30's on smooth asfalt in stock and I get around 5 weeks from mine

Most people run old tires in practice for club racing, and then for the qualifier's put on new tires. Honestly, you should be able to keep up with older tires at most club races. The faster you get with old tires, the better you will be with new ones. New tires are always faster, but you can get 10-15 runs out of them easy. Maybe you should start looking elsewhere to buy your tires.

In the past few months I spent a LOT of time at an indoor carpet track with black can+stick packs touring car on rubber tires. With used tires between 10 to 20 runs old I was running laps in the high 13's to low 14's; best laps at 13.7 seconds. I told my buddy "my next run, I'm going for the record". Not having changed anything but put on a set of tires with 2 runs on them (fairly new); I was running all high 13's, best laps in 13.5 seconds.

Assuming it's a perfect run; you're looking at a few tenths a lap difference between new tires and well used tires and it adds up over the length of a race. In 10 laps; 2 to 3 seconds, in 20laps 4 to 6 seconds. You really got to ask yourself do you need new tires every run in a race; especially for the guys who know they are incapable of running a CLEAN 5 mins; 1 accident would cost you the difference that a new set of tires will make in performance!..

Somethings wrong if you only get a few runs before they wear through.

Check out "Rubber Tires for Dummies" thread, lots of good specific info from experts there, including estimates of time impacts old vs. new tires, how to treat them, etc.

If your setup is ok and you drive smooth you should get weeks out of a set of tires... unless you are really, really good, in other words, beating all the average drivers it makes a fairly small difference 1 run vs. 5 or 6'... like 3 or 4 seconds. That's a lot for national level drivers. It's not much at all for most of us, not when tires are $30 to $35 a set.
