Tamiya TA05MS

I like the feel of the short arms on the TA05MS. All you really need are the short arms though you should change the suspension mounts and swingshafts. I am using 46 mm swingshafts, 1D and 1C up front, and 1XA and 1E for the rear. The only other change I made to the setup was to raise the roll center on all four ends of the car.
I thought about switching the whole suspension over to the 416 style. I ended up deciding to keep the old suspension because I have so many spares that would go to waste otherwise. The 416 style suspension is a bit more robust and so far, I haven't had any broken suspension on my 416. If you decide to use 416 suspension, then yes, you do need the C hubs as well.

Just need suspension bridges on top of that kit to finish it off...

I am using all of those parts except for the 1C mount. You'll need a bridge mount; 1C - 51067 is not a bridge mount. I ended up using the 3Racing 1C bridge mount from RCMarket HK. You could also use the 416 1C mount - 54071 flipped upside down with spacers.

I may be confusing myself here..
Are you running -0.5 toe on the front wheels?
(which has 1D at front and 1C at rear)
I'm not 100% clear on how the suspension mounts work with track width offsets.
Help on the sus. mounts would be appreciated!

Here's what I am using now...
Front, 0.5 toe OUT..
- F mount: 1B
- R mount: 1A (bridge)
Rear, 3.0 toe IN..
- F mount: 1XB (flipped, spacers)
- R mount: 1D
In order to maintain toe settings and track width with the short arms, would I just need to go to the next wider mount on each of the suspension mounts?

I am not 100% sure, but between the short arms and long arms I think there is a 1 mm difference and between any two consecutive mounts (e.g. 1A and 1B, 1B and 1C) I measured 1 mm. Given that the size assumptions are true, to keep your track width and the same toe settings that you are currently running, up front you'd need 1C for the front front mount and 1B for the front rear mount; for the rear you'd need 1XA for the front rear mount and 1E for the rear rear mount.
Oh and I just put one of my spare 415 1B mounts next to the 416 1B mount that is on my car and they are not equal in width. I won't have time until Tuesday, but I am going to take my 416 mount off to find out if the holes for the suspension balls also do not match. If they don't, you may have to use a 3Racing bridge mount for the front rear mount as opposed to the 416 mount flipped upside down. Try and check TryHard's site for any info regarding mixing 415 and 416 mounts together.

The screw holes for the shock on the arm are the same distance apart as with the original LW arms. Only with the short arms, hole #2 (the second hole from the outside) seems to line up with hole #3 on the LW arms. So, if you are using hold #3 now, hole #2 with the short arms should give you the same feel.

Ed confirmed the 415/TA05 and 416 mounts are interchangeable.
Here's what I'm ending up with..
Front, 0.5 toe OUT..
- F mount: 1B -> 1D
- R mount: 1A -> 1C
Rear, 3.0 toe IN..
- F mount: 1XB -> 1X
- R mount: 1D -> 1F
It is assumed 1mm loss per arm, therefore 2mm total track width is lost with short arms.
The above suspension mounts give the same toe settings and track width as original arms.
Here's a full parts listing for the complete suspension conversion...
1 x Tamiya (#51333) TRF416 E Parts (Rear Upright)
1 x Tamiya (#54068) TB-03 Suspension Mount (1X)
1 x Tamiya (#54071) TB-03 Aluminum Suspension Mount (1C)
1 x Tamiya (#54072) TB-03 Aluminum Suspension Mount (1D)
1 x Tamiya (#54074) TB-03 Aluminum Suspension Mount (1F)
1 x Tamiya (#54083) Short Reversible Suspension Set
2 x Tamiya (#9804379) 44mm Swing Shaft Blue
I am guessing that an additional 2 x 3mm spacers are required for under the 1C suspension mount as this will need to be flipped to allow the font belt to pass under.

The short arms are not exactly 1mm shorter than the standard arms. In fact the difference is not even the same front to rear. Check some of the more recent posts in the 416 thread for actual number...
