im planning to get the TA05MS and i read on Tamiya site stating that pinion gear will not be included in the kit.

question is what pinion size should i be looking at? car will be used for drifting and medium size track. thus, i prefer a more 'torquey', low FDR ratio. motor will be 23T or a BL equivalent (13.5T).

what about high FDR ratio? what pinion should i use then?

btw, has anyone here ran the Xray T2R and TA05MS for comparison? any personal reviews?

sorry for the many questions as i need to know more before spending on my next kit... thanks!

The internal ratio is 2.25 - the same as the regular TA05.

There is a pinion included in the ta05ms, 25t 0.4...

If you're just going to drift the 05ms with a 23t motor, and a average track, I suggest you start with 6.5 FDR and start from there... Check your motor if it is getting very hot, if it does, then remove 1 tooth, but if not, you could add one more tooth but if you're happy with the FDR, then stay with it...

I've been running my TA05MS with a spool lately. Compared to equipping your car with a one-way, you have to tune the car for the opposite effect. You need to make it dive a lot more going into corners whereas with a one-way, you need far less dive.

I changed a whole bunch of things from the standard setup, but I think my setup can still be improved a little more. I am just going to have to do a little experimenting. So far, with a spool, I am using:

inner upper camber link spacer: 2 mm (front and rear)
rear outer upper camber link spacer: 0.5 mm
inner upper camber link position: 3 (front), 2 (rear)
springs and damper: yellow, 40 wt., 3 hole piston all around
suspension mounts: B, XA (front); A,D (rear)
sway bar: red all around, tight rear, loose front
wheel spacers: 5 mm hub + 1 mm spacer all around
camber: 1.5 degrees all around
front toe: 1 degree
upper damper position setting: 3 (front), 3 (rear)
lower damper position setting: 3 (front), 3 (rear)
ride height: 4.5 mm (front), 5 mm (rear)
rebound stroke: 3 mm (front), 2.5 mm (rear)

Edit: forgot to mention that I am currently using a Novak GTB + 10.5SS motor with a 105 spur and 44 tooth pinion at the moment. The GTB is mounted to the rear of the motor.

Sorry if this questions has been answered already, but how big is the spur that comes with the kit? and also what pitch is it?

Oh and 1 more thing, whats the internal drive ratio?

Thanks.
