Default New Futaba Competition Speed Controller - MC850C

Just been browsing around the web and spotted that this has been released in the Far East and is listed at Tower Hobbies too...

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXPYB5&P=Z

Now I may be dumb but this looks like Futaba have designed their own speed controller this time around instead of rebadging an LRP. I have a big soft spot for Futaba equipment.

Taking a look at the manual - http://manuals.hobbico.com/fut/futm0950-manual.pdf - it has a few interesting features.

Notably it seems you cannot program it at all without a PC link.

Also it suggest a data logging function for current and voltage for up to 8 minutes. Could be interesting or could be useless.

And there is a programmable low voltage cutoff which may be useful with LiPo.

Shame it still needs a Schottky and a Power cap. I really appreciate that my current Keyence needs neither, makes for a much tidier and easier install.

Anyone running one yet?

Seriously, I'm pretty sure it isn't a KO. The case is screwed together differently and it has different programming.

And the on/off is on the lead that comes out the side.

There's also an LED on the top panel. Its a real Futaba. And from what was communicated to me by Hideo Kitazawa during TITC 2007, it has data logging features similar to what I think to Robitronic's latest ESC. Also has a very high thermal shutdown.

Anyone saw the official website info?

Also Quantum 3 is not even released yet... and I wouldn't be surprised if it was never released since LRP seem to be having more success with brushless now. We have been waiting 2 years now for it.

The ESC is not on Futaba Japan's site yet (as far as I can tell) however it is on Tower Hobbies and they are part of the same company that distributes Futaba in the USA.

Saw one of these "in the flesh" on Sunday. Looks like i nicely packaged piece of equipment. We tried to work out if it was "rebadged" but between a couple of us couldn't think of another speedo that it seemed to be based on - hence it seems like a new unit.

Oh, and i understand that the QC3 is still coming.

I loved my MC800C and it seemed to be A LOT more reliable than the LRP units it was "rebadged" from, so if I still used brushed stuff, i would definitely look to this for my esc.

This ESC looks great. Are there any similar ESCs (i.e. small, light, with solder posts) that sell for more like $80? Or maybe I should be looking for certain models, but used?
