GP Cells...
 

Anyone still matching and/or selling sub-c GP cells? What are the newest ones...the GP4300?

If anyone has info or links to companies/websites selling them can you post please?

Seems like a good business decision for one of the matchers to make since there is a I hate IB4200 thread :nod: I still have a GP3300 that is holding up well. Have you tried Trinity?

All of these companies still match GP's
SMC,Promatch,Trinity,Brood,Fantom,ERU, and many more.

SMC, br00d, trinity, or fantom don't match GP cells anymore.......I have not had a GP pack matched in over a year.......

I can't speak for promatch.....

GP got a monopoly and then started to price gouge....IB stepped in and made a better and cheaper cell.

As for durability....I replaced cells in the GP line a near the same rate as the IB line.....the big thing with IB cells is making sure they are fresh....when they sit, they can go bad....

So, if you expect a IB to just hold great for 2 months in your box....well, take an hour every coupe weeks and just cycle them.....they will be fine. You don't let a real car battery sit for months and expect it to start the car do ya?

If it waz a Li-Po it would start even after a year..... :D

I dunno.....I had to replace a lipo reciever pack cause it would not charge.....the guy said it was fine when he stored it.....3 months ago...

My transmitter pack did the same thing and I had to replace it....

No battery is immune.....doesn't matter the tech yer using....

Besides, I don't have to store a NIMH in a bunker so it doesn't burn down my house either......

Thats funny , I ran a Orion Carbon 3200 for a victory the other night , I charged it 2 months ago .....


You may need to call Orion and purchase their`s cus they R the best !!! :D

Well, they do have the ability to be more durable during storage.....never said they didn't, but they are not immune. Try storing one at 100% charge....see how it works after 2 months of sitting....the point being, u need to store them correctly, regardless of battery type and take care of your stuff.....

And why call Orion.....I will call Kokam and get them myself....

By then I will still be racing with my ORION Carbon`s, cus they will still be fast... :D

The ability af a lipo to withstand storage is manufacturer dependent. I had one lot of cells where a bunch of cells puffed up just sitting there fully charged in under a month - though this only happened with one manufacturer. Most all the good Lipo manufacturers guarantee that a cell can withstand a 6 month storage with no ill-effects other than a slight loss of capacity (even fully charged) and I have literally thousands of cells in my storage cabinet for over a year and there are 0 failures. Kokam is the exception - they are now claiming 5 year storage with their latest cells, but like all manufacturer claims, I'll believe it when I get the data myself.

Compare that to my IB cells. My 3 newest packs were stored fully charged for about 3-4 months. Two of the packs have one dead cell, the last pack has 2 dead cells. All packs ($210 worth) are pretty much useless. I did a couple of cycles to wake them up (with a gentle 10A discharge rate) and one reads 2930 mAh and the second one reads 3368 mAH and the third is still cycling. I hate IB and I hate the fact that I need to buy more Nimh for the Reedy Race.

I hope you do call Kokam. Peak/Orion needs some competition when it comes to providing racers a quality cell.

orion does i think and maybe integy but intgy matches at only 20 amp to inflate the #'s tower hobbies has intgy packs pretty cheap.

I have already called Kokam and in process of working with them on a battery....and moments afterwards, I ordred another 2000 IB cells.....two different markets...

And it doesn't suprise me that your lipos last like that.....IBs are just not designed for it, the are designed for optimal performance on the track......my advice, don't store them so long like that......I have some GP cells from late 05 that are brand new and won't take a charge(we tried like 6 months after we got them in)....every cell suffers it at some rate.....

And yes, it was a GP thread.....at which point, a LIPO fanatic named cherry began his preaching of the LIPO will save racing.

Nobody is matching the new gp4600 that I am aware of......4300 was junk....
