AMB Personal Transponder, Does it need Resistor?

Hi, Can anyone tell me if you need to install a resistor in the red wire, running standard 6 cell matched packs that peak out above 8 volts & rest at above 8 volts with no load?

(the original amb instructions states to install a resistor in series of the red wire if the supply voltage is going to be over 8 volts DC.

is it worth worry about/ will it damage it?

If you are running the transponder off your battery and not through your receiver then yes. But if the transponder is receiving its voltage through your receiver then you should be alright. Most competition speedo's have a 6v bec.
