That Soldering Iron/station is great but it wont be able to build battery packs thats the only down fall of it. I posted the link on here to them a while ago I got mine and got the biggest tip and it works great for getting the battry/motor in and out of the car and everyhitng else but just cant build a pack with it....the iron cools off to fast for that. But for the price you cant beat it.

Kevin is that generic hakko you have lower wattage than the 936 possibly? Yours looks the same...just black case instead of white.

I think the wattage is the same from what I can tell but the element on this one is smaller so it cool's very fast.....I think thats the main differance between them. And you cant interchange the Hakko iron with this one b/c the plug is backwards.....if there is a way to convert the plug then you can just get a Hakko iron and use that.....and you would still come out cheaper then a whole Hakko setup. But the Iron is great and well worth the money.

You are right about building packs. I had to use a friend's Hakko to build some packs because the element didn't get the cell hot enough. Great for regular soldering.

Default Lunch will be provided / Dinner Cancelled

spoke with a Tamiya Representative today and I was told that Lunch will be provided on Saturday, Saturday night dinner that I had planned has been cancelled.

I picked up one of the Circuit Specialists Irons last night - it certainly appears to be quality, as for the wattage, the CS iron is 40 Watts versus the 60 of the hakko....When compared next to each other, the base units are identical (the hakko is available in black as well), the box for the CS unit in fact is the exact same as the Hakko box...with the 936 on the side as well... just without the Hakko on it.. My only gripe was with the size of the tip provided...TINY!!! .8mm pencil style tip

I also checked to see if the 60 Watt Hakko iron itself would work with the base.... the connections are the same style... but inverted - male end on the base rather than the iron.

But, as someone else stated, can't beat itfor the price!
